Even if you don’t live in the city of Las Vegas, or even in the state of Nevada, you would be aware that the parties and the casinos are very much alive in the streets of Las Vegas. This is also one of the cities in the world that never sleeps. Therefore, one might expect the residents and city-dwellers to be used to all the noise.
However, if you are having a very loud party and playing very loud music, to the point that you could still be clearly heard even from being fifty feet away, you would be in violation of the city’s noise ordinance. And if you are found to be a violator and you still don’t want to tone it down, the city will fine for the violation, and you might be required to go to court and attend a hearing.
You might be new to Las Vegas and in dire need of a good night’s sleep, but you just can’t because of this loud noise from outside. Here are the steps you could take to make a noise complaint and have this straightened out.
- Determine the location of the loud party and/or music. It would be better if you are able to get or figure out the exact address of the source of the noise. If you have time, and if you live in a safe neighborhood, you can take a walk or drive around your place to pinpoint where exactly the noise is coming from.
- Pick up the phone and call the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department at (702) 828-3111. Inform them of your situation and that you wanted to report or complain about a violation of the city’s noise ordinance. They would then transfer you to the specific department which addresses this concern.
- Inform the dispatcher of the origin of the loud noise. They might also inquire if you have other information regarding the source of the noise. If it’s a party and if there is alcohol or drugs involved, this might aggravate the situation. In case you don’t have the exact address of the location, you would need to inform them of your own address to aid them in figuring out the exact source of the noise.
- It would be your discretion if you would want to be identified as the one who made the complaint or if you would want to remain anonymous. While it’s a good neighborly habit to just go ask your neighbors to tone down the noise, some might hold it as a grudge against you and possibly resort to violence. It’s better to let the authorities handle this situation.
This is good information for common victims of noise pollution. There would be no need to spend sleepless nights when you are in dire need of a good one. In the same way, this is a good warning for usual party hosts. Be considerate and keep the volume down to a reasonable level. There’s nothing wrong with having fun, but you have to make sure you’re not disturbing the peace or your neighbors, while you’re partying.
