How To Make Carpet Powder

Sometimes, you just don’t have the budget for professional cleaning so that when your carpet gets really dirty you must have wondered if you can make a cleaning agent that will do the job. The answer is yes! You can rely on some products that are found in your home or kitchen that will do much for cleaning carpets. This is called carpet powder.

There are many ways you can make carpet powder (and how to use it after making it, too):

  1. Carpet powder made from baking soda and essential oil. Use regular baking soda or aluminum-free baking soda, a bottle of your favorite essential oil such as lavender, cinnamon, eucalyptus, or patchouli, an empty coffee creamer container with a flip-top cap, and a vacuum cleaner. Fill the container to its rim with baking soda and then add a few drops of the essential oil. Close the container and shake vigorously. Spread the entire contents over the entire length of your carpet. Let it soak and sit for 15 minutes. Vacuum until your carpet looks brand new again.
  2. Carpet powder made of borax, baking soda, sweet orange oil and dried herbs. This type of carpet powder will leave your carpet smelling great and repel fleas in the process. Use an empty coffee creamer container with a flip-top cap. Unscrew the top of your container and pour in equal amounts of borax and baking soda, add in drops of the sweet orange oil, and the dried herbs – ground for this purpose. Replace the cover of your container, screw it tightly shut, and shake vigorously. When you’re done, spread the entire contents over the entire length of your carpet and let it sit for 30 minutes. Vacuum until you see that your carpet looks like a million bucks.
  3. Carpet powder made of baby powder, borax, baking soda and lemon oil. This type of carpet powder will have to be left to sit and soak on the carpet for a full 24 hours to get the most benefits but it will be worth the time once you are done. Use an empty baby powder container and unscrew the top lid or cover. Pour in equal amounts of baby powder, borax, baking soda, and about 5-6 drops of the lemon oil. Cover tightly and shake vigorously. Spread the entire contents on the entire length of your carpet and leave it there for 24 hours. You can cover the surface with plastic if you prefer. Vacuum when the required time has passed.

Use clear essential oil if you have white, beige, or pastel-colored carpets. Do not reuse the container for a different powder mixture, as this will alter the smell and consistency of the powder.

Cleaning your carpet using carpet powder with all-natural ingredients as shown here is a really great way to keep your home environment healthy and maintain the freshness and quality of your carpet. However, it is still recommended to go to a professional cleaner when dealing with major stains or an inside-and-out carpet cleaning once a month.
