How To Remove an Electric Meter

The electric meter is the round gauge that you can find outside your house. Electric meters measure the amount of electricity you use in your household. Here are the steps that you have to follow if you want to remove your electric meter:

  1. Make an appointment. Contact your local electric service provider and make an appointment on when someone can go to your place to be able to remove the electric meter. Schedule the appointment when you are free so that you can observe the removal process. Removing the electric meter means disconnecting your power supply in your place. You can have your electric meter removed if you are having problems with it, such as incorrect readings or if you need a new electric meter to replace your old one. Tell them the cause of removal so they can bring the necessary equipment.
  2. Preparation. When the day of the removal comes, it is best if you prepare and make some necessary precautions. Check all your appliances and gadgets and see to it that they are not connected to the socket. If you have a refrigerator, you may want to transfer the items inside a cooler or transfer them to your neighbor’s refrigerator to avoid spoilage.
  3. Disconnecting the electric meter. Someone from the electrical company will go to your house for the removal of the electric meter. Every electric meter has a unique security tag. This tag has the same code as the device used to record your electricity consumption. When the electricity is cut, the tag must be cut off too.
  4. Replace the electric meter. After the disconnection of the electricity, a new electric meter takes the place of the old one. This new electric meter has a new security tag. Wires will be connected together and your electric meter will be as good as new. After the electric service technician finishes working on your new electric meter, you can already test and see if the electricity works. Turn on the main switch of power in your place and test a gadget to see if there is electricity all throughout your place
