Initially, wasps are beneficial insects. They only intervene with human activity when they build nests near homes. Most people use pesticides to control the intervention of wasps. However, there are other ways to set traps for wasps. Here are some homemade tips about how to set traps for wasps:

Wasp Control 1: Ground Wasp Trap

What you need:

  • Two bottles
  • Sharp knife
  • Wasp bait
  • Tape

How to build it:

  1. Get two bottles. Liter bottles are recommended. Any kind of bottle will do as long as they have consistent width.
  2. Look for a knife. The knife should be sharp enough to cut the bottle. Now, cut the upper portion of the bottle. The portion to be cut should have consistent width.
  3. Pour wasp bait into the bottle. The bait should be about two inches deep.
  4. Remove the cap of the bottle.
  5. Position the bottle's upper portion upside down. Use the other bottle as the stand. Make sure that the two bottles fit smoothly. You may use a tape to ensure that the bottles will be in their proper positions.
  6. Now, you are ready to set your wasp trap. Bring it to the place prone of wasps. These places could be near flowerbeds or bird baths. The wasps will surely fly into the bait. Once they are in the bait, they will have the dilemma of coming out hence they will be drowned inside. Aside from controlling wasps, this wasp trap could also be used to exterminate fruit flies.

Wasp Control 2: Hanging Wasp Trap

What you need:

  • Two bottles
  • Bait
  • Tape
  • Yarn or string

How to build it:

  1. Look for two bottles of soda. Liter bottles are preferable. Remove the cap of the two bottles.
  2. Get a knife to cut each bottle. Cut the bottom part of the first bottle. Two to three inches will do. Now, cut the upper portion of the second bottle. Make sure to do the cutting in the area where the width is the same or is consistent.
  3. Now, for the larger bottle, you have to create two holes. The holes should be small. The holes should be located on the opposite sides of the bottle (upper portion).
  4. Get a yarn or a string and knot each on the opposite sides of the bottle. Make sure that the yarn or the string is long enough. You will use the yarn or string to hang your trap. You should also make sure that the yarn that you use is strong enough for the bottle's weight.
  5. Now, seal the holes. Tapes will be useful for this step. Sealing the holes will prevent the wasps from escaping.
  6. Pour wasp bait in the trap. Make sure that you do not pour TOO much bait. There should be little space inside the bottle to trap the wasps.
  7. Hang it.
  8. Make sure to clean and to refill your trap often. Remember that wasps are not attracted to bait with dead wasps.

See, you do not need to resort to expensive pesticides to kill wasps. You just need to use your creativity to kick those wasps out of your area.
