How To Spray Paint a Chandelier

People like to put chandeliers in their homes both as a functional piece, and an ornament. Their classy appearance, with all the decorations and accessories made of glass and metal can make you feel like you’re living in a mansion or a palace. But chandeliers are expensive fixtures. Buying a brand new chandelier isn’t exactly the smartest idea when one is in the middle of a recession.

Do you have an old chandelier? If you do, you can give it a nice new look by repainting it. This will save this expensive fixture from being set aside in your attic to gather dust and cobwebs.

If you don’t have an old chandelier, you can buy one secondhand and do the same. You can spray it with traditional paint. But you can also try spray painting it for your convenience. Here are some ways how to spray paint a chandelier.

Secure your chandelier. If you decide to buy a secondhand chandelier, be sure to ask for a user's manual. This will help you if ever you have some difficulties in installing the chandelier. If you are using your old chandelier, be sure to unplug it first before doing repairs. Be sure to remove accessories that are not included in the spraying process. Set these aside in a place that cannot be reached by children so that no part will be lost and that you will not worry about accidents.

Secure a spray gun. It is best to spray a chandelier with metallic shades so that it will look shiny and new. This could be copper, bronze, gold or silver shades. Make sure that the color of the spray will match the place that you want to place it. You can also spray with a solid color, if you want it to look unique. This will attract attention from your visitors.

Protect yourself. Use old or work clothes during your painting sessions. Also cover your face and mouth with a mask so that you will not inhale the fumes from the spray.  Use goggles to protect your eyes.

Look for a place to spray. It is best for you to hang your chandelier while spraying. This will ensure that you will not miss any part of the chandelier that you want to spray on. You can hang it somewhere in your garage or outside, whether on a post or a branch of a tree. Be sure to place newspapers or a drop cloth below the area where you will spray so that you will not leave the place leaving spray marks behind.

Spray your chandelier. Be sure that you will spray at least 12 inches away from the chandelier. Apply a first coating that is thin and even. You have to coat your chandelier with several layerz, so that it will give the finish that you desire and to make sure that you will not miss out on any part. Let the paint dry for 30-60 minutes before spraying another coating. If you have finished the last coating, let the chandelier dry for a whole day.

After a day, you will already have a new looking chandelier that you can hang on the ceiling of your living room, or dining room, or any room that you want. Repainting your chandelier gives you the pleasure of having it done for yourself without spending that much. It’s fun, too.
