To make the most of what we buy and improve the condition of the planet is important to nearly everyone. As a result, it is almost always better to reuse something or recycle it than it is to throw it away. So when you eat that carton of eggs, don’t throw the shells away. Save them to use in the garden. They can be useful for deterring cutworms.
Step 1:
Collect the following.
- Small container
- A bottle
- A food processor
Step 2:
Save your eggshells. Every time you use an egg, rinse it out and save it in your container.
Step 3:
When your container is full, use a bottle to crush the eggshells. Alternately, use a food processor to pulverize your eggshells.
Step 4:
Sprinkle your eggshells around young plants and seedlings to prevent cutworms from cutting through the stems. The sharp edges will keep the soft-bodied cutworm away from your tender plants.
Quick Tips:
Make sure to thoroughly clean the eggshells. If you do not, you risk pests that are attracted to the egg that remains and smell from rotting egg.
Cutworms are black, gray or brown grub-like worms.
