How To Mix Concrete for Molds

Concrete molds are used for decorations inside the house as well as in the garden. You can buy concrete molds or if you don’t want to spend too much, you can actually do these by yourself. Mixing concrete to use on molds is great especially if you have lots of time in your hands.

Here’s how to mix concrete for molds.

  • Prepare the things that you will need in mixing concrete. These are water, wheelbarrow, premium concrete (bagged) and shovel. It’s better if you use a hose to make the job easier. You can also use a trowel instead of a shovel. If you will be making big molds or you will be using large amount of concrete, you can use a concrete mixer. If you don’t have a concrete mixer and you need this for making your molds, you can rent one. You need more concrete bags if your mold is big, if not, a bag will do. It’s also important to use quality concrete so that your finish product will also be of quality and will not break easily. Some of the famous brands of concrete mixers are PakMix and Quikrete. You can find more information about PalMix on their websiteas well as where you can buy this product. For Quickrete, you can also visit their website for more information. Make sure to wear gloves when working to protect your hands from the mixture.
  • Mix concrete with water. Get your bags of concrete and pour the content on the wheelbarrow and add some water. Mix using the shovel. If you are using a concrete mixer, put concrete and water on the mixer to combine. Continue mixing until you get the right consistency for your mixture. You can add more water or concrete as needed. You can add more water to lessen the thickness of the mixture and add more concrete if the mixture is too thin. This will make the mixture thicker.
  • Mold mixture. Once you have the right consistency, you can now pour your concrete mixture to your mold and let this completely dry. This will take about 24 hours. To make your mold dry faster, you can leave this outside if the sun is out. However, make sure to immediately move your mold inside the house if it starts raining. Bring it out if the sun is out again. If you’re going somewhere, you can ask someone at home to move your mold if it rains. If no one will be left at home, it’s better to bring it inside so you don’t have to worry in case it rains.

Once completely dry, you can now remove the mold and display or use the concrete mold you made. You can make more of these to use at home. If you have a garden, you can make your own garden steps. You can add design on your molds to make these even more presentable. Make these unique and personalized. If your friends and family like your concrete molds, you can also make some for them.
