How To Prevent and Treat Eczema

Eczema can be very unsightly, and in worst case scenarios, eczema can also be very painful. Some of the most severe types of eczema can cause the skin to become dry and brittle and can even cause the skin to break. Although eczema is not fatal and is not contagious, preventing and treating eczema is still necessary if you want to avoid the pain and the scarring that it can leave on the skin. Here’s how.

  • Know what triggers eczema. First of all, you should know that eczema actually has various types of triggers. Similar to an allergy, there are a variety of substances that can cause flare-ups of eczema. The triggers will vary from one person to the other, but in general, animal fur, pollen, dust, some types of plants, and some types of chemicals that are found in household cleaning agents are the triggers behind eczema. It is possible that you get eczema from only one or the other triggers, while there are also some people who get severe eczema from all of this. You can ask your dermatologist to conduct an allergy test on you to determine what causes your eczema. This way, you can avoid your triggers.
  • Check your diet. Next, also check out your diet. There are some people who get eczema flare-ups because of the food that they eat. Make sure that you read the packaging instructions on the food that you eat once you know what preservatives you are allergic to.
  • Check your mood. Another trigger for eczema is your mood. Some people experience massive and severe eczema flare-ups when they are very depressed or when they are feeling very excited. If you notice that you only get eczema whenever you’re are extremely sad or you extremely excited, you should make sure that you find a way to balance out your emotions so that your eczema stays in check .sometimes, too much stress and worrying can cause eczema to flare up.
  • Treat with oils. When you do get an eczema flare up, you should try to remedy it by suing sesame seed oil, or calendula. These will help to moisturize the skin so that the swelling and the dryness is lessened. You can also add avocado oil to the mix so that the redness is minimized. Apply these as compresses, or combine with some bathwater so that you can soak your entire body in these rich, essential oils.

With these steps, you should be able to prevent an eczema breakout, and help treat it once the flare-up has occurred.
