How To Prevent Water Pipes in a Mobile Home from Freezing

When winter comes, kids often excited but many mobile home owners aren’t thrilled with the idea simply because most of them have trouble preventing their pipes from freezing. This has been a common problem among home owners and mobile home owners but people who own mobile homes have a higher risk of experiencing this since they do not have a basement to keep their pipes away from the cold.

Frozen pipes are absolutely troublesome because it can damage your pipes and cause it to burst. Getting these pipes repaired will definitely cost you a lot of time and money that is why it is important to know what to do to prevent your pipes from freezing.

There are many different ways to prevent your mobile home pipes from freezing. Here are a few effective suggestions:

  • Use insulation sleeves. These insulation sleeves are often available in most local hardware stores and are very effective in keeping your pipes from freezing. You can easily wrap these sleeves in place that is why there is no need to call a professional to do this. Simply, wrap the insulation sleeves around that pipes that have the high risk of freezing, making sure that it fits snugly on the pipes.
  • Use electrical tape. The electrical tape is very effective during winter especially during the coldest temperatures. Wrap the electrical tape around all the exposed pipes in your mobile home and plug the power cord for the electrical tape once you are done installing it.   • Leave your faucet to drip. The pressure that comes from the water line will be enough to keep your pipes from freezing. Before you go to sleep, open your faucet a bit to allow the water to drip. This preventive measure is best done at night, on the coldest nights of the season, because you wouldn’t want to let your water drip the whole day.
  • Install skirting panels. Skirting panels are very important in preventing your pipes to be exposed. Install high quality skirting panels around your mobile home and make sure that there aren’t any gaps between the panels. A small gap will allow the cold air to enter, causing your pipes to freeze. In case you already have skirting panels, make sure that they are intact and are in good condition to prevent your pipes from freezing.
  • Shut off the master valve. In case you’ll be leaving your mobile home unattended it is best to shut off the master valve to prevent your pipes from freezing. You can also do this when the temperatures are expected to hit the peak of the coldness. Most master valves are often found under the mobile homes, near the water pipes.
