A valve cover gasket helps seal the joint between the valve cover and the rest of the engine. This is very important to prevent oil leaks from the engine. If leaking of oil continues, this can drain your car’s oil and this will cause severe damage to your vehicle. If oil is leaking on your engine, it will usually produce smoke and it will smell like something is burning. If this happens, the valve cover gasket of your vehicle needs to be replaced. If you have a luxury car like Cadillac Escalade, you need to take extra care of this since this is fairly expensive. This car was manufactured by General Motors. The first model of Cadillac Escalade was produced in 1999.
Here are the steps on how to replace the valve cover gasket in your Cadillac Escalade
- Prepare the things that you will need in replacing the valve cover gasket of your car. These are new valve cover gasket for Cadillac Escalade, screwdriver, clean rag, scrub brush and engine cleaner. You can order a valve cover gasket for your car online by accessing Auto Parts Warehouse site. You can also check this on auto supply stores near your place.
- Let your Cadillac Escalade engine cool down. Park your car on a wide space where you can do the process later. This is important so you can work properly. Turn off the car’s engine and lift its hood. Remove the negative cable of the battery from being connected to the engine. Leave it for several hours to completely cool down. However, you need to make sure that your car is secured and no one will be going to that place especially kids. Do not allow them to play near your car.
- Remove the old valve cover gasket of your car. Once the engine of your car has completely cooled down, remove the wire harness from being connected, followed by the braces and ignition coil. You will see that there are bolts securing the valve cover. To remove the valve cover, you need to remove the bolts first. Once the valve cover is removed, you will now be able to see the valve cover gasket that you will be replacing. Get a screwdriver and use this to carefully remove the old gasket.
- Clean the area where the gasket was placed. Before putting the new valve cover gasket, use a clean cloth, brush and engine cleaner for cleaning the gasket seating area or the area where you put the valve cover gasket. Once clean, put the new valve cover gasket on the gasket seating area. Put the components and bolts back to their proper locations.
Do not use the car immediately for driving after replacing the valve cover gasket. The car needs to be warmed up first so the oil of your Cadillac Escalade will move up to its engine. To do this, turn on the engine of your car while on its place. Allow the engine to run idle for about 15 minutes. After that, you can drive the car as you normally do and your car will be good as new again.
