How To Stop Pain from Sensitive Teeth

Few things can be as annoying as tooth problems. Sensitive teeth can be especially annoying, because this condition can leave you in discomfort even if your teeth are relatively in good health. If you want to prevent pain due to sensitive teeth, here are some tips that you need to follow:

  • Tooth brush. First of all, make sure that you use soft bristled tooth brushes. There are many types of tooth brushes that are being manufactured today. The soft bristled tooth brushes may be a little bit more expensive, but they will greatly reduce the pressure that your teeth receive during brushing. Also, sensitive teeth are usually the result of sensitive gums, and gums are very prone to brushing when you use hard bristled tooth brush. You should also consider using tooth brushes that have a smaller head than usual, which may be a little bit gentler on your gums.
  • Toothpaste. Next, be sure to choose toothpaste that is specifically made for sensitive teeth. There are many toothpastes like these, such as Proenamel and Sensodyne. These toothpaste contain ingredients that help remove sensitivity in the teeth, at least while you are brushing your teeth. Generally, such tootpastes contain a numbing agent that will help your teeth feel less pain. Sometimes, you can even leave the toothpaste in your mouth overnight so that the numbing action becomes more pronounced.
  • Overall oral hygiene. Also make sure that you practice good oral hygiene in general. For instance, you need to make sure that you brush your teeth at least twice a day, for at least five minutes for each brushing session. Also make sure that you gargle with an antibacterial mouthwash, and that you floss your teeth. Basic oral hygiene will keep your mouth healthy and free from bacteria that can weaken your teeth and cause pain. Brushing and flossing your teeth regularly will also prevent the buildup of tartar that can cause discoloration in your teeth.
  • Dentist consultations. In some cases, however, sensitive teeth may be caused by an underlying condition that only a dentist can diagnose. If the correct toothbrush, toothpaste, and oral hygiene are not working for you, you should consult with your dentists. Sometimes, very sensitive teeth need their own medication that only your dentist can provide you.
  • Food. Also make sure that you choose the food that you eat. Avoid foods that are excessively sweet and excessively acidic. Sugars can accumulate in the crevices in your mouth, and cause bacterial build up that can lead to inflammation and tooth pain. Acid can erode the enamel in your teeth and lead to the weakening of your teeth. Make sure that you also drink plenty of water so that your mouth is clean at all times.

Up to fifty percent of all people will suffer from sensitive teeth at one point or the other. With these steps, you should be able to prevent tooth pain form or, at the very least, make your sensitive teeth more manageable.
