How To Write a Cover Letter for a Customer Service Job

One of the most common jobs today are customer service jobs. Most large companies and corporations deal with the public, and because their products and services reach so many people, they need plenty of customer service representatives to help with the various issues and concerns that their patrons have. If you want to work as a customer service representative, here’s how you can make the cover letter for your application.

  • Write articulately. First of all, make sure that you write in an articulate manner. Being articulate, however, does not mean being too wordy. Remember, there are plenty of other applicants for the job that you are applying for, which is why you need to make sure that the cover letter is easy to understand. Otherwise, the recruiters or the HR department may simply skip your application form. Remember, in an economy where there are many unemployed and job hunters, there is no reason why a particular company should immediately focus on your application. Use words that are easy to understand, but appropriate for the position that you are applying for.
  • Use a friendly tone. Next, make sure that you use a friendly tone as you write your cover letter. After all, you are applying for a job that involves constant interaction with other people from the public. This means that you need to be friendly, since you are dealing with other people, and as a customer service representative, you are representing the company that you are working for.
  • Be concise. As you write the cover letter, you need to be concise as well as articulate. Being concise means that you should be able to express yourself in just a couple of words. Remember, a cover letter is not meant to be too wordy, and is not meant to be a comprehensive backgrounder on who you are and why you should be employed. It should simply hint at why you are the perfect candidate for a particular job position.
  • Experience. In your cover letter, you should also cover in broad strokes the basic experiences that you have had with customer service work. This will give the employer a better idea of why you should be employed. Keep in mind, however, that you do not need to be too detailed when writing about your background experience. After all, your application likely includes your résumé. It will be in your resume where your detailed work experience should be summarized.
  • Review. Finally, be sure to review and sign your cover letter. One of the worst mistakes that you can do is to send a cover letter with some typographical or grammatical errors in them. This is one of the signs that you are not attentive to details, and when working in customer service, attention to details is very important.
