Hello to all of you Pocket PC, Windows Mobile and 82c fans out there. Today’s video is going to be concentrated on how to upgrade an HTC device. So for example, I have my AT&T 8525 right here and this is where I am going to be demonstrating on how t upgrade. Currently, it has a Windows Mobile 6.1 custom but we are going to install Windows Mobile 6 Official Firmware from HTC’s website. Now, to clarify, it is not on HTC’s website anymore so what you have to do is go to XTADevelopers.com. I would have the link on the show note so that you could be able to click on that and go over there to their Wikipage. And, I am also going to show on the video where you need to go. Now, a couple of things that you are going to need in this tutorial is one, ActiveSync 4.5 which you can download from Microsoft’s website. Two, you are going to need a ROM to be able to flash your phone. So first, we are going to go ahead and download Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5. I will I have the link in the show note like I said earlier so that you can get directly to it. In Windows Vista, it is called Mobile Device Manager and it is pre-installed in those Vista installation. So if you have this, you might not even have to install it. So, we can go ahead and accept download. In this case, I have already downloaded so I can click cancel. Once you have downloaded it, make sure that you run the installer and it will go the installation process, but of course, I have already installed and it should be running in my tray. So, we are going to go ahead and close out of that. Once you have done that, you are going to need to reboot the computer. And once the computer is rebooted back up, you need to go to the link in the show notes for the XDADeveloperWiki or you can also go to Google.com and search for XDADeveloperWiki. Then, you will be greeted by this beautiful little page that has a whole bunch of HTC devices. What you need to do is scroll down and find your HTC device. If you don’t know the HTC name for your device, you can go down here and it will show you all the other names that the phone has. So for example on mine, it is also called the HTP 4500, the HTCZ, the HTC Titan Rogers and the HTC Titan, the Qtech9600, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And, if you look, AT&T 8525, so I am going to click on that. Once we are on there, this webpage gives you a whole lot of information about the phone, the hardware inside of it, wireless adapter, what type of processor it has, what software came with it originally, what software you can upgrade it to, tutorials on the device, installations of sort of programs for the device, how to turn your phone into a wireless router, but we are going to go down here to available original shipped Windows Mobile 6 ROMs. Now, once you get to this page, you are greeted with a lot of options. You can download different languages or different regions of the software. So, German, French, Spanish and there is more. But, we are going to stick with English. Now, there is an HTC, Tmobile, AT&T, Dopod, O2 and i-mate ROMs. Now, even though we have an AT&T phone, I am going to go ahead and install the HTC version. And the reason is because the AT&T version covers a lot of bloatware on your phone such as the AT&T music software that it slows down the phone in the long and taking up memory that you really need in the long run considering that the phone doesn’t have a lot of a lot of memory unless you install an external device such as a micro SD card on it. So we are going to go ahead and go to download for the HTC, the one at the very top. We are a free user on RapidShare.com because I don’t have an account with them so you will have to wait a minute before you can actually start to download. Or, if you have premium account, you can log in and begin to download instantaneously. Once it is downloaded which I already have it downloaded, you are going to go ahead and open it up, click run and click next. It will install the install shield wizard for the upgrade and verify the information on you PC. Now, depending on the PC, it is going to take a little
