It's easy to fly with your cat, small dog, bird, or other pet in the cabin of an airplane. Most airlines will allow you to bring an animal on board as a carry-on and place it underneath the seat in front of you. Restrictions can vary, however, depending on the airline that you're hoping to fly. Make sure that you look into the requirements that each airline sets forth.

There are also many standard rules and regulations that you'll need to follow, regardless of the airline you and your pet are going to fly. Meet Mimi, my Mexican Redheaded Amazon Parrot. She talks and sings and eats and showers. One of her biggest habits, unfortunately, is chewing. She'll chew on anything, like the back of the sofa, the edge of my drapes, or my shirt sleeve. So I had to become creative and come up with things for her to chew on and play with to keep her away from my cherished items. Here is a list of great toys for birds that keep them entertained and healthy as well.

When you think of birds in the wild, where are they? In trees, of course. Perched high on a tree branch, chirping away. Going with that thought, I cut down a huge chunk of tree branch from my back yard. Then I took a five gallon bucket and mixed up some Sakrete, available at any hardware store. Then I sunk the trunk of the tree branch in the Sakrete and let it sit. Now, Mimi has her own abode and she loves perching in her tree, ripping off the bark and chewing through the wood.

There's no easy way to cope with the loss of a pet, nor should you try to bypass the natural grieving process. Always remember, you're not alone. Everyone who's ever been touched by a pet's loving devotion has also known the pain of loss.

A time of emotional turbulence. After the loss of a pet, you can expect to face the emotional roller coaster known as grief. For a time - sometimes a period of days, sometimes weeks or months - you may experience feelings of disbelief, sadness, anger, guilt, embarrassment or depression. Let's banish embarrassment without further delay, though, since there is no justifiable reason to be ashamed of grieving for your lost pet. Grief is admirable and human, not unnatural or embarrassing.
