How To Catch a Rabbit

A rabbit is a cute creature that some kids want to keep as a pet, but don’t be fooled by their appearance. When left in your garden, a rabbit can feed on your plants and flowers or destroy them. This can really be annoying. Rabbits like to inhabit gardens and lawns, as they have room to grow and they also have everything they need, especially the food. If you find that there are rabbits on the loose in your garden, the best thing that you should do is to catch them and let them loose in another area.

You do not need the help of an animal service just to catch the rabbits in your garden. You can make your very own rabbit trap so that you can solve your problem. Follow the simple steps below so that you can catch a rabbit.

  1. Materials. First, gather all the materials that you need for setting up the trap to catch the rabbit. You will need a live trap, some bait (carrots, cabbage, bread, rabbit food, etc.) and also some gloves. You can purchase a live trap online or you can also rent one from your local animal service. These live traps are also very useful for catching other stray animals in your garden, such as gophers or raccoons.
  2. Preparation. You can now prepare your rabbit trap. Survey your garden so that you will know where the rabbits prefer to stay. This is where you should set up your trap so that it will be faster for you to capture them. Use some of your bait and put it inside the trap. Before you leave the trap, test it first to see if it works. You can use a long stick to move the plate or the bait and see if the door to the trap shuts. If it does, you are good to go.
  3. Catching the rabbit. Now, all you have to do is to wait for the rabbit to go near the trap, eat the food and be captured. This could take about a few hours or even a few days. When you see the rabbit, do not go and tamper with the trap as the rabbit might get startled and hop away from the trap.
  4. Handling the rabbit. When you have already trapped the rabbit and you are ready to release it to another place, make sure that you wear thick gloves on both your hands as rabbits, especially wild ones, tend to bite. Wearing the gloves will protect your hands from these bites.

These are the simple steps on how you can catch a rabbit and release it to another place, away from your lawn or garden. If you are trying to catch a pet rabbit, then you can try to catch it first without the use of a trap. Pet rabbits are more used to being touched by humans so it may be easier for you to catch it just by getting it with both your hands.
