A dog is a man's best friend. The Cannis familiaris, most popularly known as dogs, are known to be species that belong to the order Carnivora, thus, they are considered to be meat-eating animals. Throughout the history of mankind, domesticated dogs have been the most popular animals being cared for by people in their homes. 

According to the American Kennel Club, the most popular dog breeds are the Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Yorkshire Terriers, German Shepherds, Beagles, Dachshunds, Boxers, Poodles, Shih Tzu, and the Miniature Schnauzers.   • Labrador Retrievers are known to be the most renowned and admired dog breed in the world. They are known to be short in height but muscular in body figure. They are known for their friendly nature and even-tempered attitude. Aside from being a retriever, it can also be a good hunter, tracker, watchdog and an excellent escort of the blind.
  • Golden Retrievers are commonly 21-24 inches tall and weigh 50-80 pounds. They are known to be sociable, flexible, jovial and intelligent dogs. They are very playful dogs that love running, fetching balls and swimming. They can also be easily trained due to the innate intelligence that they possess. 
  • Yorkshire Terriers are commonly 6-7 inches tall and weigh 7 pounds. They are considered loyal, courageous and smart. These dogs seek a lot of attention from their owners. The life span of these dogs ranges from 12-15 years.
  • German Shepherds are commonly 22-26 inches tall and weigh 77-85 pounds. They have an obvious muscular body and are often black in color. They are obedient and very affectionate to their owners, but can be suspicious to new acquaintances. They are intelligent, thus, making it easy for their owners to train them. They are considered good guard dogs. 
  • Beagles are commonly 13-16 inches tall and weigh 20-25 pounds. They are covered with a short hair coat. They are described by their owners as sweet and very affectionate dogs. The life span of these dogs ranges from 12-15 years.
  • Dachshunds are easily distinguished from other dog breeds because of their long-bodied but short-legged muscular appearance. They are known to be vigorous, loving and naughty at times. They love playing and running around. They are considered to be good watchdogs.
  • Boxers are commonly 21-25 inches tall and weigh 50-75 pounds. They are covered with a short hair coat, which comes in different colors. Boxers are affectionate and obedient to their owners but are suspicious of strangers. They can be easily trained because of their high learning ability.
  • Poodles have a curled hair coat. Poodles are affectionate to their owners and they want to be with them most of the time. Poodles are known to be one of the most intelligent dog breeds in the world, thus, they can be trained easily. Their life span ranges from 12-15 years. 
  • Shih Tzu originated from China. It is a long haired dog, with deep huge eyes. It grows up to 11 inches tall and can weigh 9-16 pounds. It is a sweet, loyal and playful dog. Despite its size, it is considered a great watchdog due to its great alertness. This dog can become very sensitive to hot places.
  • Miniature Schnauzers are commonly 12-14 inches tall and weigh 12-20 pounds. They have soft and curly hair. These dogs are known to be playful, affectionate, obedient and alert. They enjoy being with their owners most of the time. They are considered to be good guard dogs.
