Polo wraps are used in a wide variety of equine activities to help increase bloodflow in a horse's leg muscles, leading to greater injury prevention. Keeping polo wraps clean and neat is essential as any slight bump or mishap in wrapping the leg, such as wrapping too tightly, can lead to injury. When applying polo wraps to a horse's legs it is extremely important to do so smoothly and using a perfectly clean fresh wrap every time for each leg.

Polo wraps come in a variety of materials and colors. They can add handsomely to a horse's appearance during equine sport events as polo wraps are available in a vast array of colors and designs,  another reason keeping them clean is advisable practice.

It is wise to consider polo wraps to be dirty after each and every use and to treat them as such. Polo wraps are made from fleece or, less commonly, acrylic. It is impossible to stress enough the importance for your horse's well-being that polo wraps are kept clean.  Tor both acrylic and fleece polo wraps, the care is the same.

Immediately after removing the wraps from your horse's legs inspect them for things such as dirt, hay, shavings; basically, you're looking for anything foreign on the wraps. Shake them out or brush them off and re-inspect to determine whether they are still clean or in need of a wash. If you have only used them lightly it may be possible to re-use them another time or two. If they are soiled, it is important to wash them as sweat and debris can lead to a breeding ground for bacteria, which no one wants to wrap around his horse's legs!

Washing of your polo wraps can be done in a conventional washing machine or by hand. It is advised to use a laundry soap with natural ingredients designed to be free of allergens. Laundry detergents designed for infants can be a good choice, although there is no shortage of options in today's marketplace.

If you choose to wash your wraps in a machine, use a mesh laundry bag that ties or zips shut; this will ensure that the wraps suffer little wear in the washer and will not become tangled. It also cannot hurt to wash your wraps on the delicate cycle. If you hand-wash, use warm water and roll in a towel to remove excess water. However you choose to wash your polo wraps, they will dry best in a conventional dryer as they will be restored to their original soft and fluffy state.  It is important not to overdry, as this can shorten the lifespan of your wraps. Once dry, the wraps should be carefully rewound and kept for the next use.
