About 7 years ago I became the proud owner of a Yorkie puppy. I had never owned one of those "pure" dogs and soon realized that they have more problems, such a allergies. As a natural health fanatic I started looking for natural ways to treat Harry and make his life wonderful. I started with researching and finding the absolute best food and supplements. Another thing was to question everything and not add any more toxins to his world, so absolutely the only vaccines that the govenment required would be given to him.
One by one I have rescued pets to join Harry. I now have 14 dogs, many pure breeds, and a couple of foster dogs. Also 3 rescued cats and a few farm animals. These animals found me and I took them; therefore, I am responsible for making their lives the best that they can be, whether they are "pure" or mixed.
Here are some of the things I do for my Royal family.
- First thing in the morning they spend a little time out doors, they have 3 doggie doors but like to have a human out with them.
- A trip to the kitchen for a meatball made of ground meat, fish oil, oatmeal, eggs and any left over sweet potatoes or green beans. I make the meatball about the size of a small lemon, freeze them in mini muffin tins and have them available every morning.
- I make sure there is fresh food in each bowl and fresh water in all the water bowls and fountains. Before bed the food bowls are filled again, and the animals spend a little time outdoors.
- The old dogs or dogs with poor teeth are given a food bowl with a cup of dry food softened with warm water with canned food added.
- Cats are given their food, both canned and wet food and their vitamins. Their water is freshened too.
- They all go outdoors to play again. All the diggers dig and the ones who are in training are given their lesson.
- Back into the house to relax to classical music and everyone is combed for fleas and a skin check, if ear wash is necessary it is done at this time.
- Vitamin/mineral supplement is given and each one that needs it is given the agility supplement or the skin and coat supplement. Poms and Yorkies always have to have a skin and coat supplement.
There are some other things done throughout the week:
- Shampoos are given weekly with an all natural shampoo and conditioner and a spritz throughout the week with the anti flea spritzer. Harry requires a bath twice a week and some times the 2 poms do too. Doxies and the border collie keep their nails trimmed by digging and doxies have self-care hair too.
- Usually weekly we have our dental care and general digestive aid in the form of a raw bone. The butcher cuts frozen thigh bones in one inch slices; all the dogs really love this and after they have gotten the marrow out of the bone and all the meat off, they continue to chew on the bone all week, off and on.
- Several times a week I wash all dog beds, floor quilts and pillows.
