Kinds of Bulldogs

A bulldog, once used to fight bulls and bears, is now enjoying widespread popularity as a household pet in the United States. Although bulldogs may have been used for fighting in the past, they are now bred to be friendly companion dogs for children and adults alike. They are becoming as popular as the Chihuahua or the American Pitbull mix, and some bulldogs have even been used on logos. Bulldogs come in different colors such as white, red, fawn, brindle or fallow. Three of the most popular kinds of bulldog are the English bulldog, the American bulldog, and the French bulldog.

1. English Bulldog. The English bulldog is characterized by its short snout and big head, making it a part of the brachycephalic breed. It is a very muscular dog with a short coat. Since the English bulldog has a tendency to shed, owners should take very good care of its skin. To prevent skin problems from occurring, English bulldogs should be washed frequently and kept cool and clean at all times.
2. American Bulldog. The American bulldog is taller compared to the English bulldog. Its features are less defined and it is characterized by a narrow head and longer legs. It looks very similar to the Boxer, another type of dog. It is the largest among all the other types of bulldog. The American bulldogs can be categorized into the Scott type and the Johnson type. The American bulldogs are bigger than the English bulldogs, weighing seventy to one hundred and twenty-five pounds on average.
3. French Bulldog. The French bulldog is widely believed to have descended from the English bulldog. The mini French bulldog is characterized by ears that are very similar to those of a bat. These ears, which are bat-like, have a tendency to stand up, which differs from those of the English bulldog's. The miniature French bulldog is also a lot smaller than the English bulldog, weighing twenty-eight pounds on average.

These three types of bulldogs all differ from one another in terms of facial structure, height, weight, and physical abilities. Owners need to pay special attention to their puppies since these have a tendency to develop skin problems. They should watch out for signs of overheating when exercising with their bulldogs.
