How To Learn to Recite the Qur'an

The Qur'an is Islam's Book of Divine Guidance. It is in Arabic, and is the spoken word, or "kalam", of Allah (God). It was revealed to Prophet Muhammad [صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم] via Archangel Jibrael [علیہ السلام] more than fourteen centuries ago. It has laws and commands that govern how Muslims should live, communally and individually. Unparalleled by any other book in the world, it has the unique honor of being memorized in its entirety by hundreds of thousands of Muslims, those who understand its Arabic, and also those who do not. Another distinguishing quality of this "book" is that its recitation is an act of worship, one which draws the reciter closer to Allah and earns him a multitude of reward. It also exalts his or her status among the Muslims.

How To Celebrate the Islamic Festival of `Eid Al-Fitr

After the culmination of the month of worship - Ramadan - the first day of the next month, Shawaal, is the day of `Eid Al-Fitr. "`Eid Al-Fitr" means "the festivity of breaking the fasting (routine)". In Arabic, the word "`Eid" literally means "that which returns" and "Fitr" means "breaking/splitting". In other words, it is a day that returns every year in the Islamic lunar calendar, that signifies the end of the Ramadan fasting.

It is a day of rejoicing, because in Islam, devout worship and the performance of good deeds to get the Pleasure of Allah are considered just cause for celebration. After a month of continuous fasting, Muslims are endorsed to rejoice.

How To Fast During Ramadan

Ramadan is one of the most blessed months in the Islamic Calendar. It is a month of worship, which requires a Muslim to fast from dawn to dusk, consecutively for twenty-nine or thirty days. Every Muslim knows that fasting in Ramadan is obligatory. Some have been doing it all their life, more as a cultural byproduct of being born in a Muslim household than as an expression of religious commitment; others start at a later stage in life, perhaps after converting to Islam. What stands true for all, however, is the fear of this form of worship being "difficult to do." Below is a practical guide to how Muslims can make fasting in Ramadan both easier and more spiritually rewarding:

Make your intention Allah's pleasure:

How To Refrain from Backbiting

Discussing a third, absent person negatively with others is a common habit among all and sundry, but more so among women. Women are emotional by nature, so when someone wrongs them or treats them unfairly, they easily become hurt and angry. Being naturally expressive and talkative, they can usually not restrain themselves from venting their frustrations to people close to them. This gives rise to the vicious and destructive habit of backbiting, one that ruins social relationships and makes a person more enemies than friends.

How To Conduct Yourself Inside a Hindu Temple

Any Hindu Temple is a holy place designated for public worship of God, where the form of God has been consecrated as per "Agama Shastra" (procedures and rites based on specific scripture dealing with temple construction and worship). Traditionally, some temples (having a long historic background) may draw quite large number of devotees by virtue of certain reasons associated with the sacredness of the place, specific benevolences attributed to the presiding deity, the sanctification done by a great sage who stayed at the premises and practiced severe austerities and so on.

Many ancient temples are also rich treasure houses of traditional Indian art, sculpture and architecture; they serve as museums, too, for the tourists to come, view and appreciate the magnificent sculptural and architectural capabilities of the artisans of yore. There are also temples of recent origin available for easy accessibility to devotees near most of the residential localities.

How To Guard Your Husband's Honor as a Muslim Wife

Traditionally, occupations such as cooking, sewing, fashion designing and interior decorating were considered the exclusive terrain of women. Today, however, they have all witnessed incursions by men, to some extent. One domain, though, still remains predominantly women’s-only, and that is home-making. This is because it is woman’s innate nature to be the master of her home. As manager, guard and coordinator, she happily does the household chores and caters to her family’s needs, while the husband, more often than not the chief breadwinner, remains absent throughout the day at work.

Allah has acknowledged this aspect of the functional family unit, by instructing women to be “guards” of their husband’s property and honour in the latter's absence:

“Therefore, the righteous women are devoutly obedient (to the husband), and guard in (the husband's) absence what Allah would have them guard…”

How To Read Tea Leaves

Reading tea leaves is an old tradition. Fortune tellers on several continents have practiced this art of divination. With a few simple steps, you, too, can interpret the images left in your cup after a soothing cup of tea.

Materials:
White cup and saucer
Loose tea
Hot water
Napkin

How To Remove Common Misconceptions About Hinduism

Hinduism is a vast religion with multiple facets. It is one of the oldest religions in the world. For the less informed, Hinduism may look too confusing, too complicated to understand, and too contradictory in its precepts and practices. Even many Hindus do not know the exalted philosophies of the religion. Naturally, there are many misconceptions commonly prevalent about Hinduism, some propagated by vested interests, some by ill-informed westerners and some by self-doubting Hindus. Here is an attempt to clear up some of those misconceptions.

How To Convert to Hinduism

No single, universally acceptable procedure ever exists for getting converted to Hinduism – this is the basic truth. Why? Hinduism, in absolute reality, is not a religion, but “sanatana Dharma” – the righteous way of living; it encompasses the entire creation; it is not a religion founded by any one messiah.

Hinduism is quite different from Christianity or Islam from the point of view of its vastness in the scope of practice and perception. The concept of one supreme God, who is amenable for worship in multitudes of names and forms, is one major aspect of religion that sets Hinduism apart from other religions. This has resulted in numerous sects and sub-sects in Hinduism. Further, Hinduism as practiced at the grass root level and as comprehended at the elevated spiritual and philosophical level has a vast difference in between.

How To Bond as a Muslim Family

You come home from your stressful day at the office, having faced the enormous traffic jam on the way, and all you desire is some peace and quiet, and a warm drink. The moment you step in, loud, jarring sounds greet you from the television set the kids are watching. Mama is shouting at them to keep the noise down, as she quickly tries to whip up some dinner after her own tiring day at work. The house is a mess, and the telephone and cell phone ring at the same time. You barely greet your wife with the liable assalaamu alaykum before slumping into the recliner, remembering that email you have to send. You switch on the laptop to do that before you change your clothes, realizing that neither your wife nor your kids have really acknolwledged your arrival....

How To Understand the Role of Gurus

The word "guru" in general means a teacher in Sanskrit. In the generic sense, any teacher, whether the one who teaches worldly knowledge or the one who teaches spiritual wisdom, is a guru. But normally, from the point of Hindu religion, a guru is one who teaches you spiritual knowledge, who initiates you into a spiritual path or who guides you along the path of a spiritual quest.

Great spiritual masters of Hinduism are of the firm opinion that the human birth is rare and the purpose of the human birth is to attain God or realize one’s atman, which are one and the same, viewed from two different perspectives.

This is the ultimate goal to be attained and it is varyingly termed as God realization, self-realization, attaining the knowledge of Brahman, attaining birthlessness/deathlessness (“Moksha” “Mukthi” “samadhi” “nirvana” “sakshatkar,” etc. in Sanskrit).

How To Choose Hindu Baby Names

In Hinduism, practically every aspect of human life is intrinsically connected to religion, whether explicitly known or unknown to the common man. Naming of a baby too falls into the category. Hinduism accepts God with numerous names and forms, though the underlying truth of the Ultimate Reality is one transcending name and form. Hinduism believes that the name of God is very holy and uttering God's name, consciously or unconsciously has its spiritual benefits.

How To Be a Friend for the Sake of Allah

"To love for the sake of Allah" means loving someone above worldly motives or gains; it is the love that exists between two people because of their mutual yearning for higher levels of piety and a common desire to lead a devout Muslim life. This kind of love might exist between two school-going youngsters, a couple of stay-at-home mothers in the same neighborhood, or two men frequenting the same mosque on a regular basis. It might even exist between close family members and/or relatives. Its chief characteristics are sincerity, selfless empathy and compassion.

Those who love for the sake of Allah help and support each other in becoming better Muslims. They usually meet on a collective level for the promotion or betterment of Islam, or that of Muslims in general, by organizing welfare, educational and entertainment programs for the community.

How To Judge a Friendship as Muslims

"Ah! Woe to me! Would that I had never taken such-and-such as a friend!”

[Quran, Surah Al-Furqaan: 28]

The one who is always there to console you when you want to talk about a problem, the one who sticks by you through thick and thin, the one whom you can count on to be there for you – this is the person who leaves no doubts in your mind that he or she is your “best friend”. You like each other’s company and love to spend time together. If something important happens in your life, they’re the first to know. You trust them and depend upon them in times of need. They may be a classmate, a colleague, a neighbor, a sister, a mother; or even your spouse! It could be anyone who fits this description.

How To Form a Quran Study Circle

In order to be able to practice Islam effectively in our lives, we must gain knowledge of it from authentic sources - the Quran and sunnah (way of life of the Prophet Muhammad [Allah's peace and blessings be upon him]). If we don't make an extra effort for studying these sources, we will never be able to fully understand them. Therefore, it is best to form a "study circle," a group of people studying the Quran and sunnah together--a method that develops strong mutual bonds and keeps everyone tuned in to gaining an Islamic education.

In order to know the dos and don'ts of studying Islam as a group, we can heed advice given by some companions of the Prophet Muhammad [Allah's peace and blessings be upon him]:

How To Write a Book of Shadows

Witchcraft is a religion built and founded in secrecy. In the centuries before us, a witch's knowledge was committed to memory for fear of being found out and persecuted. Not until the modern era has a witch been able to practice freely and pass her knowledge and love onto others.

A Book of Shadows is a handmade book. It is filled with spells, divinations and other related materials for the practicing Wiccan. Now since Wicca varies so greatly, so does the making of a Book of Shadows. Here are some things to keep in mind when putting together your personal tome.

How To Strengthen Your Faith in Allah

All of us, being human, experience fluctuations in our level of faith -- denoted by the Arabic word "imaan" -- during the course of our day-to-day lives. It is perfectly normal to experience this. For Muslims, what is faith or "imaan"? It is the belief that resides in our hearts regarding Allah, His revealed Divine books (Quran, Bible, Torah, Abraham's scriptures), His Prophets, His angels, His Divine Decree (or what is more commonly knows as "fate"), and the Last Hour or Last Day (when all humans will be resurrected for account-taking of their actions).

How To Get to Heaven

Sin separates God and man, thus blocking our way into heaven. Fortunately by God’s great mercy and love for us, He has provided another way for us to meet Him there. In the book of John, chapter 14:6, Jesus tells us the only way to get to heaven. Very plainly Jesus states, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through Me." Concluding by God’s word that the only way to heaven is through Jesus, we will now look at how to make that journey.

How To Make Room to Journal

Journal keepers journal for therapy, prayer and self-reflection. A spiritual journal serves as a companion if you are ready to develop and discover more about God's plan for your life. Journaling is a process for those who believe journaling is a way of life, a way of understanding the world. It is part of a lineage that embraces events, circumstances, landscapes and people that connect you to God. Journaling is a spiritual undertaking that takes you on several paths, but only one direction--deepening your relationship with God.

The most important action is to show up to the page. The more room in your life to journal generates even more room for journaling with and to God. The only true obstacle to journaling is a lack of faith that appears as fear and self-judgment. As an avid journal keeper and workshop leader, I offer you some scripture inspiration to prompt your journal writing. Pick up your pen and write.

Bombing, bullets, killing. Strife and unrest prevail. Lives are in danger if people venture out of their homes. Civic life has come to a standstill; people are stuck at home. The news is the focus of attention, speech and energies. Security is scant. Food, water, basic amenities and petrol are dwindling in supply. The future (even the coming week) is uncertain. Worry, stress and despondency are on the rise, as are anger and resentment as we see our normal lives spiral out of our control.

How To Confess Your Sins

Confession is a practice that has already developed into an institutionalized practiced -- imbued with certain beliefs and strict rules to follow. Hence, private confession requires a lot of preparation. Here are the things you have to do (or know) before private confession:

Know how the confession will go about. Basically, here are the succeeding stages of private confession, along with related attitudes that everyone has to follow diligently every time he or she confesses:

The Examination of Conscience.

Confessing Your Sins.

Priest's/Confessor's Advice.

Absolution/Act of Contrition.

(Private) Prayer (to Mary) After Confession.

That first stage is when you should evaluate what sins you have committed. Have a firm purpose of confessing them and amending them. (But then you also have to know if what things you committed are considered 'sins.')

How To Enjoy Life's Adventure

Life is a fantastic voyage: adventure, excitement, love, learning, travel, surprise. WOW! This trip has everything. Everything! Hey...and we know the destination... right! So we don't want the fastest means of travel...we want a long slow trip with time to savor, rest a bit, take time in the good places and move on quickly when another stop disappoints a bit. So this is all about the trip. Of course, some in your office call life a struggle! They live by the famous bumper stickers, "Life is hard and then you die". "The best thing about each day is that it ends". It's up to you: Misery or adventure? What will your voyage be?

How To Become a Born Again Christian

I want to share with you some simple and easy steps to salvation. Maybe you're used to thinking it's very hard to become a sound believer in Christ; I have good news for you. Getting born again is as simple as ABC when you have faith enough to follow a set of easy steps that I'm about to show you.

What is it like to be BORN AGAIN? The phrase "born again" was first used by our Lord Jesus Christ when addressing the spiritual vulnerability and the eternal damnation awaiting Nicodemus (John 3:3). Jesus categorically submitted that being born again is the passport for experiencing and entering into the Kingdom of God. To be born again is to be regenerated. It simply depicts turning from one's sinful way unto righteous living. The following are the steps necessary for getting born again.

How To Recognize and Avoid Islamophobic Propaganda

Today, mention of "Islam" and/or "Muslim" brings a scary picture to mind - one of suicide bombers, sword-wielding slayers, oppressed women and intellectual backwardness. It is a sad fact that, since 9/11, the Western world has increasingly been prone to this phenomenon, despite housing a notable, peace-observing Muslim immigrant population since decades.

How To Make Dreadlocks

Dreadlocks are a hairstyle developed and worn in the warmer Caribbean climates, generally in Jamaica. Followers of Ras Tafari, or Rastafarians, generally wear dread locks. Bob Marley, the late lamented reggae singer and songwriter sported dreadlocks. And while it may be easier to create dreadlocks on African Americans who have the desired hair texture, curlyness and thickness, dreadlocks can be created on most any type of hair. Of course, you can pay to have your hair styled into dreadlocks, but that would go against the purpose, concept and tradition of Ras Tafari, whose message was simplicity and self-expression.

Here is a list of steps to follow to create dreadlocks in your hair. You must be aware that dreadlocks do require some time to create, and that once in, you will need to leave them in for awhile. Also, if you do a very thorough job, you may not be able to get all the dreadlocks ouyt without cutting them out.

How To Live Happily with Your Wife

He who finds a wife finds a good thing and has found favor in the eyes of God -- thus says the bible. Finding a wife is truly an honorable thing. In some societies it is an initiation to maturity and responsibility. While many people would cherish that idea, managing it is very elusive to many people.

I don’t want to assume that I hold the key to the success of managing this situation, but would be happy to share some recommendations with readers from all over the world. It is my hope that this article will bring happiness to you. There is nothing that comforts a married woman more than the thought that her husband loves her and is by her side all that time. Women desire that their husbands would find such articles and read many of them.

How To Reap What You Sow in the Kingdom of God

While the earth and heaven remains, seed time and harvest....summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. That is the word of God according to Genesis 8:22. In short, the law of sowing and reaping is compared to that of summer and winter and also day and night. So long as we live, we shall experience these things. They are bound to happen. In the ordinary world, you cannot sow wheat and harvest rice. You will harvest that type of seed sowed and in plenty. In the Kingdom of God, the same rule applies--whatever one sows, the same he shall reap. Many people in the modern world pray for miracles. They want the miracles of Elijah and Enoch but do not live the lives of Elijah or Enoch.

You may be one of God's children that is looking forward to experiencing a miracle like that of Gideon. Below are some of the sowing and reaping methods:

How To Understand God

To understand God, one must have, first of all, an open mind. Then you must read and understand scripture. And last but not least, use your common sense. God is to each individual what he or she perceives God to be. So make your perception a good one. Remember that God is good. God is not spiteful and does not seek vengeance. God does not punish us for our screw-ups. God forgives. So if you can follow the 4 main ideas that follow to develop your perception of God, you will be well on your way to a happy and healthy relationship with your God and yourself.

How To Keep a Spiritual Journal

Ten million blank journals are sold annually in stationery stores alone, two million in specialty stores. Despite the current interest and availability of journals, the desire to put one's thoughts onto paper is centuries old. Seeing one's thoughts on paper is like holding a piece of your life in your hands. You can look at the journey you've taken, meditate on choices you've made, and deepen your understanding of yourself and God's purpose for your life.

How To Meditate for Enlightenment

What is meditation? Meditation is man listening to God. How do we meditate? Follow these simple steps and you will be on your way to a deep peaceful meditation. Enlightenment is what comes with a good meditation. You see, prayer is man talking to God and meditation is man listening to God. You are "enlightened" when you hear that still small voice of God during meditation, or shortly thereafter, giving you insight into what is best in your life. Don't worry about it. Don't even search for it. It will come naturally with a successful meditation.

How To Understand Waking, Dreaming and Deep Sleep States

Brihadaranyaka Upanishad interprets and describes vividly waking, dreaming and deep sleep states experienced by the self/soul of a being. Every being has a self. This self is nothing but consciousness. Whatever is seen in the body--i.e. gross body, life-force and mind--is the manifestation of this self.

Self is eternally present. It always remains in a body, be it gross or subtle. When the gross body is destroyed at death, it remains in a subtle body. Subtle body is not material but imaginary. A single body is the imagination and manifestation of a single self whereas the world is the imagination of all selves. All these things can be understood by understanding waking, dreaming and deep sleep states as described below.

How To Remember the 10 Commandments

First, you must remember them as they were set by God's revelation to Moses:

You shall have no other gods before me; you shall not make for yourself an idol.

You shall not make wrongful use of the name of your God.

Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.

Honor your Father and Mother.

You shall not murder.

You shall not commit adultery.

You shall not steal.

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

You shall not covet your neighbor's house.

You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.

Now, take a look at what Jesus told us:
