There are a few things you should consider before becoming a Baptist. Once you decide you are ready become a Baptist, you will want to follow the steps below:
- Research. A primary theological difference between Baptist churches and other Christian denominations is the baptismal process. Baptists believe members should only be baptized when they are old enough to proclaim their own faith, whereas other groups baptize infants. There are also differences in the ways in which Baptists practice their faith.
- Prepare for worship. The Baptist faith is very much community oriented. While most Christian denominations appreciate your participation in psalm rehearsal, community activities, etc., a Baptist church will expect its members to do those things. Many Christian denominations require a member to attend the church on the day of the Sabbath. Baptists are expected to not only attend, but also contribute (whether it be vocally, instrumentally, etc.).
- Accept Jesus. Having faith that Jesus Christ is the Messiah and Savior of mankind is imperative to Baptist practice.
- Join a church. Now that you researched your options, and are willing to accept Christ, it is time to choose a church. Baptists are a very community oriented group. It is important to choose a group who will be willing to assist you in the integration process.
- Get baptized. Now that you are a member of a Baptist congregation, the final step is Baptism. Consult with a Minister, and other members of the clergy who may be able to walk you through the baptismal process.
Caution:
Be advised that alcohol consumption and pre-marital sex are taboo to Baptist beliefs.
