Truth is one which is real and directly perceivable--something that can be sensed. That which is not directly perceivable can't be truth, but is imaginary. Although every society has progressed much, imaginary things still persist and command respect, but aren't necessarily truth.

Step 1:

There are six things in the world which can be directly perceived. Sight can be seen through the eyes, sound can be heard through the ears, smell can be perceived through the nostrils, taste can be perceived through the tongue and objects can be felt through the skin. The eye, ear, nostril, tongue and skin are the five sense organs in the body which are controlled by mind. Even if the eyes are open, the eyes don't see unless the mind wants to see; even if the ears are open, the ears don't hear sound unless the mind wants to hear. So mind has full control over these senses. In other words, it is the mind which realizes the outside material world.

Step 2:

The mind not only perceives the outside world through these five senses, but also feels the inner world of Self. Self is the sixth thing which can be directly perceived. Self is nothing but life and consciousness of a being. It is real and everlasting. Let us see how Self is everlasting. The material world is changeable and destructible. In the universe stars are destroyed as well as regenerated; on the earth landforms continuously change although it may take millions of years. Similarly, the human body undergoes continuous change. Old cells are destroyed and new cells take their place. Although in the brain occipital cortex neurons are not destroyed, new proteins and RNA molecules are generated and these cells constantly consume carbohydrates and lipids. So it is estimated that after every seven years body cells are regenerated i.e., we get a new body every seven years.

Step 3:

Hence in the material body as well as in the material world, everything changes except the life and consciousness. From birth until death, life and consciousness are continuous and unchanging i.e., Self is everlasting. If it is everlasting from birth to death, it should be everlasting from one birth to other.

Step 4:

So in the world Self i.e., life and consciousness, of a being is everlasting and truth. All other things like hell and heaven, gods and goddesses, ghosts and angels are imaginary and false for they can't be directly perceived.
