Purchasing the right tennis net is as important to the game as making wise selections on any other piece of tennis equipment. Your goal is to get the highest quality at the lowest price.  There are a few basic things to look for before you make any type of tennis net purchase if you want to accomplish this aim.

One of the first steps in purchasing any net for tennis is to examine the finished product very closely.  What may appear to be an excellent quality net at first glance may in fact have a number of imperfections that would cause problems later.  One common defect is a net headband made of inferior materials.  Polyester and vinyl are commonly used to make headbands. Make sure the grade of material used is not likely to crack and curl in the short term, as this would make the net worthless even if the body is still in good shape.

Also examine the body of the tennis net very closely.  Take note of the way the netting is configured, especially along the several rows located near the top of the net.  Ideally, you will want a design that sports a double set of netting for this upper portion.  Since that is the area of the net that is likely to see the most wear and tear during games, you want to make sure the area is reinforced.  A single body design will wear out much faster, making it necessary to purchase a new tennis net sooner rather than later.

Don't forget to look at the side-sticks of the net.  If possible, go with fiberglass sticks rather than wooden ones.  Wood will tend to deteriorate more rapidly, while the fiberglass will retain its shape and keep the net looking straight for a much longer period of time.

Along with the general quality, price is usually an important factor in your final decision.  Keep in mind that with tennis nets, you get what you pay for.  It is possible to buy nets that are made with inferior products, but your savings will be short lived, as the cheaper net will have to be replaced much sooner than one of superior quality.  Fortunately, it is possible to obtain a high quality tennis net on sale at some sporting goods shops, as well as a number of online retail outlets.  Spend some time comparing prices and there is a good chance you will find a net that is of excellent quality as well as affordable.
