Snooker is a variation on the traditional game of billiards, or pool, that was conceived by British soldiers stationed in India during the late 19th century. Snooker balls are also different; they are much smaller than regular billiards balls and are not numbered. Instead, different colored balls are assigned different point values and whoever scores the most points wins the game.

If you are thinking of investing in a snooker table, here are some steps you might want to take:

Step 1:

Consider the quality of the snooker table you will want to buy. Do you play often, and do you plan on advancing your skills? Do you want a professional quality table or just one for recreation?

Step 2:

Decide on a room where you will put the snooker table. It should not contain too much large furniture and have sturdy floors.

Step 3:

Measure the room, and add space to maneuver. Furniture should be taken into account; snooker tables are rectangular, and the game requires a rectangular sized area of free space around the tables. Professional sized snooker tables measure 12 feet by 6 feet, but require additional space of 22 feet by 16 feet for adequate room for cueing.

Step 4:

Decide on what size snooker table you want. They come in a variety of sizes and dimensions, ranging from 12' by 6' to 4' by 2'. The 4' by 2' tables are generally manufactured as tabletop or collapsible playing tables. Almost any size between those two extremes is also available; 10' x 5', 8' by 4', and 6' by 3' tables are also common. All tables, however, are twice as long as they are wide.
