How To Enroll in Surf Camps

Summer is here, and it's time to hit the beach.  If your child is showing an interest in surfing, you may want to enroll him or her in a surf school.  There, he or she can learn basic maneuvers, surf etiquette and water safety. It will also be a great way to teach your child about self reliance, after all, you won't be there to teach them yourself. If you are having trouble finding the ideal surf camp for your little fish, look no further.  Here is how to enroll in surf camps.

First, do your research.  Scan the Internet for surf camps in your area.  If you are landlocked, this might be an issue.  You may have to send your son or daughter to another state.  If you do not feel comfortable doing this, reconsider the choice all together.  Living in coastal towns is, of course, going to make it much less difficult to find an abundance of choices.  Compare the camp's prices, dates, and any availability issues.  Surf camps can last anywhere from six days to three weeks, or longer, so keep that in mind when making your final decision.

Once you find a camp that looks promising, make an appointment to take a tour, if this is geographically feasible.  Ask as many questions as it takes to make the most informed choice possible.  Take your child along with you for this step.  He or she may lose interest when they see that surfing is rather difficult to master.  Ask how many instructors there will be per child?  Do you need to provide equipment, or are rental boards available?  If your child has limited experience in the water, are swimming lessons an option? How many lessons will my child receive per day? Will my 12 year old be expected to bunk overnight, with a 16 or 17 year old?  These may seem like ridiculous questions, but remember, you are spending your hard earned money on this camp.
