It is definitely not difficult to obtain a hockey schedule.  The overwhelming majority of NHL teams have them available through their main offices.  They can have a copy of the schedule sent to you through the mail.  Once you go to a game for a particular organization, there are vendors there who are selling the schedules for a certain price.  You can pick a schedule up at the arena.  Some players would even be willing to autograph a program that has a schedule in it.  The autograph on the schedule could really be worth something some day.  An example of this would be getting the autograph of the Columbus Jackets rising star Rick Nash.  If you go to the area where the Columbus Blue Jackets play early enough, you may be able to get the autograph of several of their players.  If you are lucky you may also get the autograph of Columbus head coach Ken Hitchcock.

You can use that schedule that you picked at the arena to highlight certain games you want to see.  A good example of a game you might want to see would be the first time new Chicago Blackhawks star Marian Hossa plays either one of his former teams.  You could be talking about the Ottawa Senators or the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Hossa also played for the Atlanta Thrashers and the Detroit Red Wings, but his time at those two stops was rather uneventful. It will be interesting to see whether Hossa can live up to the twelve year, sixty-two point eight million dollar contract that he received from the Blackhawks.

If you are a Washington Capitals fan, you certainly want to be able to highlight the first showdown between Alexander Ovechin and Daniel Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Crosby and Ovechin are considered two of the great, rising stars in the league.  The hope for the NHL and Commissioner Gary Bettman is that Crosby and Ovechin are so popular that they are able to revive the game of hockey in the United States.  It certainly would be a help to NBC, who has been carrying NHL games on their airwaves the last couple of years.  A compelling early season match up will be when the Colorado Avalanche take on the Montreal Canadians.  This will be the home opener for the Avalanche.  The fact that Joe Sakic is no longer with the Colorado Avalanche should make this match up a bit more competitive.
