How To Have a Safe Camping Trip

Who says camping is not for the weak of heart? Camping whenever you have the chance can be a great time for you or your friends and family. It is a great experience for bonding and having fun. However, it can also be a bad experience if you do not know how to do things correctly and if you are not comfortable with the environment. It can even be dangerous if you are not careful enough.

Here are some tips to have a safe camping trip:

  • Keep the food in a safe place. If you leave your food outside, the bears and other types of animals may smell it and take away your food. Worse, they might even break a few things and create chaos before leaving with your food. They might scare you so much that you will swear not to go camping again, which should not be the case. This is the reason why you must keep your food in a storage that will not let the smell out, or you can keep it inside your vehicle to ensure that it will not be taken away.
  • Practice the buddy system. Whenever you are going on a short or long hike, or even when you are going to the bathroom or sightseeing, do not go alone. Ask someone to go with you. If there is no one available, wait until someone is available to walk with you. You might encounter an accident like sliding or falling off a hole and if there is no one there to help you, it might really be dangerous. This is why a partner would be really helpful so that someone can call for help.
  • Wear the proper outfit fit for outdoor adventures. You should wear the sturdiest shoes or boots that are classified for hiking. Wear appropriate shirt and shorts or pants also since there are a lot of thorny plants or even some dangerous plants that might irritate your skin.
  • Always monitor the campfire. Once you have created a campfire, make sure that it will not burn the nearby plants, as wildfires are easily spread in the forests. Keep it in medium fire. Do not throw anything that might aggravate the fire, especially aerosol cans that are really dangerous once they came in contact with the fire.
  • Do not eat or drink anything that you cannot identify. Do not drink the water from creeks or bodies of water nearby, even if it looks clean. Remember, contaminated water can appear very clean. Do not eat fruits from the trees that you are not familiar with. They could irritate your stomach, or worse, be poisonous.
  • Do not touch insects that are found in the forest. Some of them may look like normal insects found at home or in your garden, but they may be an entirely different species that are extremely dangerous and poisonous.

The best way to be safe in a camping trip is to keep the things above in mind, and to have fun and be as comfortable as possible. You can even bring pillows and books so that you will be comfortable on your camping trip.
