Striking a soccer ball may appear to be one of the simpler things to do in life. How hard can it be, swing your leg and connect with your foot right? Generally speaking this technique will work, but if you want to properly kick a soccer ball you'll need to know a few tips. There are five basic styles for kicking a soccer ball that will help you achieve accurate passes, strikes, or chips.

Passing is the most fundamental and important part of soccer. Therefore, knowing how to properly bass a soccer ball is vital. In order to achieve a simple pass to a teammate, all you need to do is kick the ball with the inside of your foot, along your arch. Rotate your foot roughly 90 degrees outward from your body, exposing the inside of your foot. Strike through the vertical middle of the ball. Another easy way to pass the ball is with the outside of your foot. Again, simply rotate your foot, this time with the toes pointed inward, and strike through the ball with the outside of your foot. Both of these techniques are great for a short pass along the ground. Neither will require or provide much power, but will be very accurate and easy to control.

If you want to know how to put an effective strike on the opposing goal, you'll want to consider these two different techniques for kicking a soccer ball. A common approach to striking a ball on goal is to keep your toes pointed down toward the ground and strike through the ball with the top of your foot. An alternate approach would be to use a combination of the inside of your foot and the top. Striking the ball using the inside of your foot up near your big toe is another way to put an effective strike on goal. Both techniques provide more power behind your kick and will be more effective from farther away; however, you lose accuracy on your shot.

Finally, you can also chip a soccer ball. A chip is a very simple technique for kicking a ball. Any part of your foot can be used to strike the ball, but remember to get under the ball, striking it where it meets the ground. This will give the ball greater loft at the expense of accuracy and quick pace.

All the above techniques are effective and basic ways to kick a soccer ball. One important thing to remember that applies to all these techniques is proper body control. Always keep your body "over the ball" or, in other words, lean forward slightly from the waist. This keeps your body balanced and provides proper control and power when you kick a soccer ball.
