How To Get Fired From Your Job

OK, so this really isn't an instruction manual for getting fired from your job. I'd rather you didn't get fired, in all honesty. The more people that take this kind of advice to heart, the more people are unemployed. The next thing you know, the economy is really in the tank, and who's to blame? Me. No, thank you.

Rather, this is a list of things that I would avoid doing, if you want to keep your steady paycheck, and in turn, your tummy full and your feet warm.

How To Improve Your Science Writing Skills

If you intend to pursue a career in science, you will most likely need to learn how to write science articles or at the very least an experiment protocol. Survival in the field of scientific research is dependent upon reporting your results in a concise and accurate manner. Here is a starting point for improving those writing skills necessary to succeed in science.

Learn APA style. All major scientific journals require submissions to follow the latest APA style publication manual. Knowing the ins and outs of this writing style will help reduce the time it takes to revise and format after the article is written and you will be able to focus more on content than mechanics. Purchase the latest publication manual for handy reference and follow it exactly.

How To Find Jobs in Science

Science is a very broad and diverse discipline. There are many careers in various fields of science and different industries. While the newspaper want ads may not be filled with jobs for scientists, there are many resources available to find the right job for you.

Academic Research-Every major college and university in the United States, and even throughout the world, participates on some level in scientific research. Many laboratory jobs are available at any given time for recent graduates, or people with advanced degrees. Look at the employment pages of the official university website for more information on what is available. Pay in academia is usually significantly less than industry, but it is easier to get an entry level position most of the time. Skills and experience can be gained in order to move to industry at a later time.
