Puberty in Girls

Puberty is the condition when nature works to changes kids into grown-ups. Both boys and girls undergo stages of puberty as part of the development of the reproductive organs. However, girls experience puberty at earlier age than boys do. Puberty is caused by reproductive hormones. The female hormone, estrogen, is the main hormone that triggers these changes in girls during this stage.

Puberty brings about changes in a girl's height and weight. At age nine, most girls reach 17% to 18% of their adult height. They may even reach their peak height six months before they even have their first menstrual period. More body fat is stored in the upper arms, thighs, and lower back. The hips become wider and rounder and the waist becomes narrower. This gives a more feminine shape to a girl's body.

Recent years have shown how aggressive marketing can be, and alongside that, marketing of cigarette and tobacco use has seen the increase in the number of smokers. Even more alarming, more and more teenagers are smoking, based on statistics. Studies also show that nearly all occurrence of tobacco use starts before the senior year in high school; the time when most teens are subject to peer pressure. Needless to say, cigarette smoking is indeed life threatening, and even second-hand smoke kills. As established by facts, the government and health experts have been consistent in the health effects and dangers of nicotine.

Noting that cigarette use is habit-forming or causes an addiction, it is best to curb this habit among teens, and there are a number ways a responsible adult can do that.

How To Talk to Your Gifted Child

If you think that you have a gifted child, and people around you confirm that your child is really gifted, ask the nearest school to help you bring your child to a professional for a test. Leave it up to school procedures on what they will do in recognizing that your child is really gifted. Then plan to do the rest on your own:

How To Teach Your Son About Love

Fathers impact their children’s lives. They should teach them more than solving math assignments—including something about powerful emotions like love. The role of a father is the most significant responsibility a man can fulfill. Fathers should aspire to raise their sons as men of character. To do so, they must recognize the key characteristics that sons need from their fathers.

Teach your son to be a caring man, and be an example at home. Stress the principles of love and respect. If these are present at home, your son will grow up to be a caring man and a respectable adult.

Avoid any arguments in front of your children. Destructive words lack love and respect. Parents discuss issues behind close doors. If there is shouting and hitting in your house, the children will think this behavior is acceptable.

Show affection to your children and spouse.

Help Children of Divorce Cope with Holidays

When parents separate, the children are often on the losing end. They are the ones affected most, and the transition is difficult. Holidays after divorce are most difficult to deal with. This is the time when the family ordinarily plans out of town trips, picnics, or just holiday treats for the children.

To help the children cope, the parent who keeps the children should reassure them that both their parents will provide love and stability throughout their lives. Being a single parent, the burden is now yours to help your children cope with the new situation.
