So you have paid for your plane tickets, your bags are packed, but the passport you've applied for still hasn't arrived! How do you check your passport status? Not to worry, the process is quite simple. See below for details.
- Application Processing Time: If you have applied for a new passport or renewed your current one, you should receive your passport 6 weeks after the date of application. If you have requested an expedited passport processing, you should receive your passport 2 weeks after the date of application.
- Checking status online: You can check the status of your passport application online, through the US Department of State's secure website. You will need to provide the following information:
- Your last name
- Date of birth
- The last 4 digits of your social security number

- Checking status over the phone: If you prefer to check passport application status without the online website, you can request the information by calling The National Passport Application Center.
