A Beginner's Guide

Whether your job requires you to travel frequently, or if you simply love to travel, you might find it easier if you book your airline tickets online. Booking airfares online is fairly easy and convenient to do, and you even get more chances to find good flight deals when you search for them online. Discount tickets usually cannot be found online, and you must go to a travel agency for one, but if you know where to look, you will find it moderately easy to get travel tickets that aren't regular-priced but cheaper. There are a few tips and tricks that you might want to learn first in booking airline tickets online:

  1. Look for deals in travel sites. BestFares.com can give you information about air tickets you can get and the best deals that are available online, though if you want to take full advantage of this site, you have to pay a yearly subscriber's fee.
  2. Qixo is another site which offers fare deals and allows users to book fares. One other site you might want to check when booking your trip is Expedia.com. You can get Expedia to take care of every aspect of your trip, from booking plane tickets to getting reservations to a hotel and getting a car to drive you there. Additionally, Expedia came up with a system they call Best Price Guarantee to assure their customers that they're getting the best price for the trip they booked. The Best Price Guarantee works this way: if you see a better deal online for a trip you've already booked with Expedia within twenty four hours, you can call Expedia for them to refund the difference and give you a $50 travel coupon.
  3. You might also want to check the websites of discount airlines in case they're offering a cheaper deal than their bigger competitors, but keep in mind that smaller airlines mean that their network is also smaller.
  4. If you're in no big hurry, you can also check airline auction sites like Hotwire.com to get discounted tickets. Hotwire.com offers tickets from nine major airlines. To use it, you put in your destination plus the date you want to travel. Hotwire.com will then give you the best price it is able to find online, and an hour to think about whether or not you will buy the ticket. The deal expires after an hour if you still haven't bought it.
  5. You can also compare fare prices on your own. If you don't want to trust any one site to offer you the very best deal, you can check out different sites and make this process a bit quicker through the use of a comparison-shopping engine.
  6. One other trick is to buy your ticket at least two weeks in advance. Advance purchase fares are usually offered at a lower price. The snag here is that fares are known to fluctuate, and a cheaper one might actually come along at a later date.

Good luck and happy, cheap travels!
