In this time where computers and Internet are ubiquitous, it's easy to search for a place and see what it looks like. With just a few clicks in Google Earth, you can see in a three-dimensional form several places in matters of seconds without need of leaving your house. You would be asking then what educational trips are for when these trips can all be done online, without risking your life or investing in travel expenses.

Educational trips are without doubt more exciting than online "trips". Participants can get a feel of the actual places they visited, they can learn more by experiencing going to these places, and they can also interact with other participants and even people in places they visited.

However, "exciting" or "fun" does not always come with the term "educational trips". The latter could be as boring as listening to a dull teacher. Trips such as these should not have for their only goal the acquiring of knowledge, markers touched, people interacted with and places observed. In order for educational trips to be exciting and not traumatic for you, you should follow these simple steps:

Prepare for the trip:

  1. Ask the trip organizer the places where you are going to visit. After getting the list, gather information about these places. This information can be helpful during the actual trip.
  2. List all the questions you want to answer about these places. It feels good to learn something that you can't find out in your own research.
  3. Prepare all that you need to bring on your trip, such as a digital camera and camcorder for taking souvenir shots, or an iPod for music on long trips. If the educational trip would last more than a day, prepare your extra shirts and personal hygiene accessories.
  4. Bring food and water, you might get hungry along the way, and certainly an educational trip would not be fun when your stomach is already aching for food.

On your way to the destination:

  1. Wake up early, and arrive at your meeting place ahead of schedule or at least on time. You certainly don't want to be left behind by the bus, because that would ruin all the excitement you have been experiencing for the past few days.
  2. Start a conversation with your seatmate, and you may gain a new friend. When you are talking with someone, you will not notice the span of time consumed during travel, it would also prevent you from looking bored.

When you get there:

  1. Take as many souvenir photos or videos of all the beautiful places and things you see as you can. Note that in some museums and private places, taking photos and videos are not allowed.
  2. Interact with people you see in these places, such as the curators of museums. Ask relevant questions about things you want to learn.
  3. Don't leave the group you are with, especially if you are not familiar with the place, its not fun when you are lost in an unknown place, and you don't want your companions to be worried about you the whole time.

These tips are based from experience; you could of course add some more depending on your style of enjoying an educational trip. Never forget though that you are on an educational trip. Too much fun could be detrimental to your purpose. A moderate amount of fun and excitement would suffice for your trip.
