Walking into Indianapolis Airport, you will find that the first things you will notice are their floor-to-ceiling windows. Installed to create a feeling of spaciousness for airline passengers, the windows help in creating the feeling that you aren't stuck in a cramped, busy airport terminal. Indianapolis International Airport has a very futuristic, modern feel to it, and has a very good security system in place. US Customs and Border Protection and the Federal Inspection service area are in place, but passengers will not have a difficult time going through the standard security checks. The airport was opened in November of 2008, and services more than 8.5 million passengers per year. The Indianapolis International Airport also serves as the base of operations for Federal Express.
The airport is located southwest of Indianapolis proper. Thirteen airlines fly in and out of the airport everyday, managing 38 nonstop flights to their U.S. destinations. There are also four low-fare airlines that the airport services, which help keep airfares to the Indianapolis International Airport quite low. These low-fare airlines are Independence Air, Frontier, ATA and Southwest.
The Airport has a central terminal area. Here you can find various retail establishments and the food court. Four concourses branch out from this main area, A, B, C and D. Concourses A and D are found at the farthest areas of the airport. Concourse A services Northwest/KLM, and Southwest Airlines. Concourse B services American Airlines, Delta airlines and Independence Air. In Concourse C, you can find Air Tran, America West, ATA, Continental, Frontier and Midwest Connect. Concourse D services Air Canada, United Airlines and US Airways. Ticketing and Check In areas are readily found at the front area of the Central terminal. There are a total of 40 gates in the airport. Flight information monitors and terminals are also spread out throughout the airport, so you won't have a hard time finding the right flight information. International passengers arrive at Gates A3 to 5.
Baggage claim is located at the main terminal's lower level. For money matters, ATMs are spread throughout the area, while the Currency Exchange service of the airport can be found right beside the International Arrivals area. The airport also has an Interfaith Chapel, located near the ticketing area, as part of their Passenger Terminal. The Passenger terminal also has US Mail and Fedex drop boxes, as well as a postal center. The airport also provides free wireless internet access to all its passengers.
The Guest Services Center of Indianapolis International Airport is conveniently located between the Civic Plaza and the Ticketing Hall. Here, the staff provides basic business services, provides information on local attractions, airport amenities, hotel locations and reservations and transportation options. The Guest Services Center also has Internet access, a barbershop, currency exchange and a travel spa.
The airport's Ground Transportation Center is located on the first floor of the Parking Garage. The staff here will provide information on car rentals, public transportation and hotel courtesy vehicles.
