Spring break is coming up and thousands of college and high school kids will hit the road for a week-long party. This party often leads to lots of drinking. It's a chance for kids to get away from the responsibility of school and have no worries for a week. While it's supposed to be fun and harmless, there are often stories of tragedy, sorrow and pain. This article can help you stay safe during spring break.
Step 1:

Stay close to your friends. One of the most important safety tips is to be around people you know and try to stay in a big group. This is especially true if you are traveling outside of the country. You will want to stay with a crowd and not allow yourself to be singled out. This is extremely important because anyone who may be looking for trouble will shy away from big groups.

Step 2:

Be responsible when drinking. Even though spring break is about partying and drinking, you still have to act responsibly when doing so. Most accidents during spring break are alcohol related. People make bad mistakes when they become too intoxicated. Have a buddy system where friends watch out for one another. This does not mean you cannot have fun; you should just watch your limits.

Step 3:

Carry your ID and a list of contacts.  Another great idea is to have a list of contact numbers and a valid ID on you. This is even more important if you are traveling out of the country. Be sure you always have a valid ID on you at all times in case of an emergency. You should also create a contact list for both you and family members who may need to contact you. Communication is the key to a safe spring break.

Step 4:

Be smart. Most of all, you are going to need to be smart and responsible. While spring break is a time to let loose and forget about the tough school year, it is not a time to do stupid things. Stay within reason when participating in certain activities and always remain in control of the situation and yourself.

Spring break should be a great time for you and your friends; however, there are always going to be stories of tragedy. Protect yourself and your friends from anything harmful and make this week one to remember--not forget.
