One of the first and oldest modes of transportation is the train. The train is a rail transportation that was developed in the 19th century. At first, trains were used only for shipping. In 1825, a railway company in England began railroading using trains as a mode of transportation for passengers going to different places.

Trains run in railroads or on railways. Railroads consist of rail tracks which are two metal tracks that are parallel to each other and are placed in a sleeper or a cross tie. One of the most famous train stations in the world is the Nagoya train station in Japan. The Nagoya station is the largest train station in the world in terms of floor area. With regards to capacity, the Grand Central terminal in New York is the largest. The biggest underground train station is the London Underground in England.

Trains are a great way for adventure travel. Passengers get to see different sights when aboard the train. Train tickets are cheap and you don’t have to worry about traffic. Trains stop in different stations. They also have different routes and schedules.

Tracking train routes is valuable in train operation. This is how the train station manages train traffic. Monitoring how trains come and go in the train station is necessary because it’s a way to avoid accidents.

  • Telegraph. There are different ways on how to track train routes. Back in the old days, a telegraph was used in tracking train routes. This gives the train route engineers and train operators a means to coordinate the location of each the train.
  • Telephone. The telephone was used as a train route tracker. With this method, the management of trains was even more improved.
  • Satellite. Nowadays trains already have built in tracking devices. Since most of the trains use same railways, railroad companies also consolidated their database for more efficient train route tracking. The newest technology today in tracking train routes is by the use of satellite through GPS or Global Positioning System.

Tracking train routes is very important. It is how the train station keeps ticket paying passengers safe. Knowing the different routes of the train and how the management keeps track of the train routes will give travelers peace of mind.
