The Chicago History Museum, better known as the Field Museum of Natural History, is a great place to visit.  The museum does not just contain a varied assortment of exhibits but it is a phenomenal structure. The architecture of the Chicago History Museum has not changed to adapt to the more modern trends as have many other places. The architecture of the Chicago History Museum is still the same after at least eighty years. Many people visit there to look at the architectural work as well as the exhibits.

Visiting the Chicago History Museum is not a one day excursion. To see everything the museum has to offer takes many days and can go into many weeks. Just visiting those exhibits you have the most interest in can take days. A good example, are the Egyptian displays. There are so many to go through, so much to read and experience that one day is not sufficient. One day is just a cursory check to see what you want to come back to see in depth. The prehistoric man exhibit is another very in-depth exhibit that can take several days to experience. Exhibits at the Chicago History Museum are not just to be looked at and read about, they are to be experienced. There are seats in front of the exhibits for the observer to sit and take in the exhibit’s features. Thus, becoming a part of the exhibit and making it an experience.

Another very interesting exhibit is that of the various animals. True they are not live animals but stuffed. However, they are very lifelike and set in displays that show their natural habitats.  This exhibit is an especially good experience for school aged children to teach them about various animals. The display cases tell them where they are found in the wild and about their environment. This is a good educational experience not only for the school age child but for the parent that is accompanying the child.

The Chicago History Museum also offers a head set that allows you to listen to a narrator tell you about the exhibit you are looking at. The information the narrator gives you is pretty much the same as that which is written in an information panel on the exhibit. It does however, save you the reading time.  In some instances the narrator will refer you to a specific item or part of the exhibit that you should not miss.

When in Chicago visit the Field Museum of Natural History, also known as the Chicago History Museum, and have a great time.
