When was the last time you and your spouse had a romantic weekend? The romance should not end with the marriage, every successful couple knows that. The romantic adventures that you have done before your kids came into this world need not be forgotten.
Before you decide on places to go and things to do on your romantic weekend getaway, here is a list of some things to attend to:
- Arrange for a baby sitter. You should decide who to leave your kids with during the weekend. You are lucky if they still have Grandma and Grandpa around. The next best alternative is to contact the nearest relative and ask them to sleep over at your place during the weekend. Or you can trade with a neighbor for a child care weekend. Promise that it will be your turn to take care of their kids once they decide to go on a trip.
- Allot a portion of your funds for your trip. The activities and the places you will go to will all depend on your budget. You may have already allotted a portion of your savings for an annual trip or you can start saving months before.
- Plan your activity. What is the activity that you and your spouse will most likely enjoy? Do you remember something that you and your spouse have wished to do ever since you got married? Maybe, this weekend is the time for you to do that.
- Be ready to leave all distractions behind. You should both agree that the weekend would only be about the two of you - no calls (except for emergencies), no emails, no work. Set up an "on-vacation" auto response for your mail and prepare your answering machine. Everything should be taken care of before the big day.
Now here are a few of the best romantic weekend getaways for you and your spouse:
- Relax and unwind at a hotel resort. Book yourselves a weekend in a new environment. Get a spa service and get your most awaited massage. Have dinner by candlelight in the hotel's lounge. Dance if you must! Relive the days when you were still dating and get to know each other again.
- Explore the great outdoors. Plan a camping trip by the lake or a mountain reserve. You can arrange for special activities like kayaking, mountain biking, or mountain climbing. Who says rough cannot be romantic? A nature trip can be romantic if you are with the one you love.
- Have romance even on a tight budget. Bring your kids over to their cousins and have the house all to yourselves. Light the fireplace and snuggle on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and watch some mushy DVDs. What happens next is entirely up to both of you.
Romantic weekend getaways are a must for couples. It need not be expensive or out of this world. What matters most is that both of you have enjoyed your romantic weekend.
