Mark Stine has been a professional stained glass artist for over 30 years. Stained glass was a hobby he took up at age 11, when an uncle who had taken a class showed him the basics. Although he was a microbiology major in college, he was already making stained glass artworks for extra money and as a summertime occupation. When he took a break after college, he soon became quite good at it as well as financially able to support himself at this hobby-turned-profession. He has always chosen to work as a one-person studio since employing others meant more time spent as the owner of a craft business and less time as a creative artist. Over the years, he developed methods that were so precise that he has won awards for his craftsmanship as well as for his design abilities.

He returned to college in the early 90's and got an undergraduate degree in psychology and a Masters in social work, but the birth of his only child just after graduate school motivated him to go back to stained glass since he had always wanted to be a stay-at-home parent, too. The rise of the Internet during these years has resulted in his being busier than ever as a glass artist. Today, a good portion of his stained glass or beveled glass artworks are shipped all over the United States, and he has even been commissioned as far away as Dublin, Ireland.

Working at home throughout his adulthood has allowed him to become a good cook as well as a talented glass artist. He has won awards in a few cooking and baking contests, too.

When not glassing or cooking, he likes to read, write, play board games and card games that require some intelligence, get exercise, and help his son with his homework.

His artworks can be seen at his stained glass web site ( http://www.tdstainedglass.com ). Most recently, he has also begun to market a 43-hour long series of DVDs that teach the precise craftsmanship that he has developed over many years of making stained glass.
My son inspires me to think young, to remain flexible and laid back, and to keep up on pop culture. I am also inspired and guided through life by Taoist philosophy and by Jewish Flexidoxy, both of which teach the importance of being open-minded about all things in a culture where judgement and dogma are powerful.
