I started writing when I was in second grade. I realized at a young age I could express myself through words and a couple of crayons. The passion to write has stayed with me, as has the passion to teach people not just how to write, but how to dream big and follow their dreams. I teach at the Institute of Children's Literature as well as our local high school.
I didn't always write for children. The first five years of my writing career I worked for various magazines as assistant editor or editor. When I became a mom and wanted to stay home with my children, I found that writing for children was the perfect career. Today I have published or have under contract 22 children's books and over a hundred published magazine pieces. I divide my time teaching, writing and being a mom.
