I have taught in public schools for over eight years. I earned my Master's in Education from the University of Minnesota in the area of Curriculum and Instruction with membership in the Phi Kappa Phi Honor's Society for academic excellence. Mainly, I have taught in urban areas working with immigrant students and families with limited resources. I especially enjoy discussing strategies with parents that they can apply at home. I am bilingual and have interpreted for the Spanish-speaking families with whom I work. My other passion is fiction writing. I have written a novel that is yet unpublished and I have published several short stories with online literary journals.
I am always inspired by parents who are working to do the very best for their children even without a lot of resources like time or money at their disposal. I have found that parents appreciate a clear, direct message about what they can do to help their child. A 'no excuses' approach is what I have grown to believe. You don't have to be rich or be an expert in order to help your child with their education every day. It is that important.
