One of the other great circus skills that you can work on is something called the cigar box. And this was popularized W. C Fields sort of in 1920’s and it’s simply three boxes with a little suede on the side for a little grip. And what you want to do is you can manipulate the three boxes by doing a variety of different tricks.
The key to doing all your cigar boxes is not to bend from the waste because that will hurt the back. But what I do is I really use my knees and after about 20 minutes of practice. I should really feel my thighs burning from bouncing up and down.
So what I’m going to be doing. I’ll try to keep my back as straight as possible as I go up and down and every time I come up, that is when I release. So I come up and I release, I come up, I release, I come up, I release and it’s that motion that will save your back as well as smooth out your routine when you’re doing different cigar box tricks.
