Common difficulties Hello and welcome to www.freejugglinglessons.com. My name is Lynden Blades and I am your one-to-one juggling instructor. I have been juggling for about 20 years. I have been teaching juggling for about 20 years over that time people have come up with—people have come to me with exactly the same problems. If someone has felt that they are not going to be able to juggle for any particular reason, they always come up with a same three problems. So in this lesson, I just want to talk about those problems because if they—if you feel that you have this issues. I will get those out of the way now so we can deal with them and the three biggest issues are, the first one is always—I will not able to juggle because I am uncoordinated and I always say to people so you honestly tell me that you are uncoordinated and they say “Yes, I am a bit uncoordinated.” I say “Alright, it must be so hard for you, that it is really, really hard? You can ride a bicycle, right? And they go “Oh! Yes, I can ride a bicycle.” So then they know, they have got their hands on the handle bars, they are balancing their body, they are looking around all over the place, they are probably talking on the mobile phone or chatting to their friends all at the same time or if he is an adult then I say to them “Can you drive a car?” And they say “Yes, I can drive a car.” See, that your right hand on the stirring wheel, you got your right foot on the accelerator, your left on the clutch and the brake and your left on the gears stick and you are looking out the window in the rear view mirror and eating a sandwich and listening to the radio all at the same time and yet you are honestly telling me that you are uncoordinated. And people always say to me, when you put it like that, I guess you lie. I am not really uncoordinated at all. If you are able to walk down the road without falling over, you have enough coordination to be able to juggle really, really well. So do not believe that you are uncoordinated until you have given out a try because it really does not take very much coordination to be able to juggle for three balls. The second objection that I always get is that people say “I am not going to be able to juggle because I cannot catch.” They say “Yes, I cannot catch.” And usually this is from one single event that probably happened at school where someone threw them the ball and they fumbled it and it fell down and then they got this life-long belief that they cannot catch. It is absolutely amazing. Here is the good news, with juggling you do not mean to be great at catching. What you really need to be—what you are going to be developing is your skills, throwing. You do not need to be a good catcher to be a good juggler and I will show you why. If I throw this ball really, really well—I do not really have to make a lot of effort to catch it because it just lands in my hand automatically. See! I can try really hard to catch that because my throw is really good and that is what we develop when we learn juggling skills is that we learn how to throw really, really well and accurately. So if you believe that you cannot catch, you are not very good at catching, do not worry about it because that is not going to hold you back to juggling at all. That is the second objection. The third objection that I always get is I say to someone “Hey, would you like to learn how to juggle? I will teach you. It is absolutely free of charge.” And they say “Oh! Yes, I love too, but I will not be able to do it.” That is the objection. I will not be able to do it. And I would say to them “Oh! Okay. How do you know that? Have you ever tried.” And they say “Well, no. I had never tried.” Well, sometimes they say yes “I tried for about 10 minutes once in my flat by myself and I got to let it go. I was not able to do it.” And I say to them “Well, did you have a great teacher?” and they say “No, I did not have a great teacher.” Well, if somebody gave you a car. Supposing cars were tormented and somebody gave you a car and parked it outside your house, but you had no teacher. How long would it take you to learn how to drive your car? It will take you really a long time even to figure out the most simplest thing on your own. If you had a great teacher and if you have a genuine desire to learn, you can learn anything including how to do juggling and if it takes you a long time, it really does not matter because usually if you learn something really quickly then it is not that much fun. If it actually takes you a long time to learn something then it is those people that get the absolute and most satisfaction out of it in the end and personally I am not a really expert juggler, but I did not learn quickly. I took me quite a long time to get it together even though I can teach and very quickly indeed. And most people can learn it really, really in a short period of time. So those are the three objections. I will be able today even though I have not tried. I am uncoordinated even though I can do loads of other things that really require a high level of coordination and I cannot catch. So, if any of those things applied to you. I hope that those have dealt with them. My name is Lynden Blades. Please go and have a look at the archive at freejugglinglessons.com so that we can get or learn how to juggle. I will see you in the next lesson. Take care. Bye.
