Today our daily tip podcast sponsored by the makers of SUGAR FX, creative themes and effects for Final Cut Pro. Check them out at ilearnfast.com. Welcome to the daily TDMD Podcast. My name is Marcelo Lewin, The Digital Media Dude. Today’s tip is for Final Cut Pro and how to search for unused assets in your projects. If you’re like me, you import a lot more assets to your projects than you end up using. This takes up a lot of space in your hard drive and makes your project very disorganized. In this podcast, I will show you how to use the fine tool to search for unused assets, and how to remove them from your project. So let’s get started. Okay here we are in the Final Cut Pro and I got a project already open and let’s assume that this project is completed, we’re done, we’ve got this main sequence, and we got as you can see my browse are here. We have a lot of different kinds of assets, a lot of B role, we have interviews, we have performances, variety stuff. And let us assume that this is it, this is the final and really don’t need any other stuff. What I’m going to do now is I’m going ahead and click on the browse itself then I’m going to hit command “F” and that’s going to bring up the find tool. Now there are a couple of things you might want to check here. First thing is the search. Do you want to search the current project which is, it’ll be shown here or all open projects. Now for example, you have media in some of this project that is dependent for other projects, you might want to say all open projects. Once you have done that, you want to select, under the four, you can search for all media, for unused media, or for used media. So I’m going to say unused media. Now if you say in selected sequences, it will search for any media that is not used in that particular sequence that you selected in your browser. However I’m going to leave that unselected which means that if I have more, in this case I only have one sequence, but if I had more sequences it will search through all the sequences. And on the result I’m just going to say replace any find results, which I don’t have any at this point. Once I have done that, I can click on find all and what it does, it gives me a result window that shows me basically all of the media that is currently not in use the project. And the next thing about this is you can actually click on any of this and it will show it to you in the browser. For example here we have Crave B role 67, if I actually go to that here, I click on it and it will show it to me. I can also, for example, in the result I can go command “A” which selects everything, and it’ll show me in my browser here everything that is unused. Now what you can do is to go ahead and remove all of these. All you do is click on remove for the project. Once you do that, it actually has been removed, and you will no longer see the actual assets within the browser so you can see a lot of the stuff is actually now gone from there. And that cleans up your project to quite a bit. Well that’s it for the short podcast, and I hope that you enjoyed it. I’d love to hear from you.
