As we finish off our last lesson, we just sent our design off to the client and as it turns out, they do have a few comments to make. But since we are smart and set up our design to be flexible, we will be able to make those changes really quickly.
The first one is going to be easy. They want us to punch up the brightness of these colors just a little bit and we can increase the brightness of our button very easily by going in and adjusting the blend between the background color and the foreground image that we see.
I am going to do that by clicking on the button background layer and simply going up to the opacity slider and bringing those colors right on up and see if we go up to just about 80% on those.
I think that really enhances the colors as far as their impact on the overall webpage design and because we use that color dodge blending mode on the baseline of our buttons. We do not have to make any adjustments to those at all. They simply brighten up with the rest of the image.
Now, to bring a bit of color down to those two buttons at the bottom, let us just use these two colors and we will create a little bar fill for them as well. I am going to do that by selecting the marquee tool and we will use a trick of selecting by going over to the “Before” button and picking off that layer.
With the marquee tool, I will just sloppily select around the outside of that, making sure I just hit the before button. I will hold down “Command” or “Ctrl” on the PC and use the right and left arrows with my move tool.
Now, with that selection made, I will just create a brand new layer for the fill and we will fill it for the sample off of the flames. I will name this layer buttoncap01.
I will sample off that color from the orange blends first and to fill my selection with the foreground color, I first need to switch into the move tool and do that by pressing the “V” key and I can quickly do a fill by using “Option+Del” and that will be “Alt+Backspace” on the PC.
Now, while we still have it selected, I am going to use “Command+T” or “Ctrl+T” to access the transform tools and I am going to take this rectangle and make into a very narrow one, so we have that bar shape we were looking for just as before.
I will hit “Return” to confirm the transformation and with the move tool still selected, I can move that up just touch, so it is right above my button bar. Now, I just need one more of these. I might as well reuse the one that I have already worked to make. So, I am going to duplicate that button cap01 layer.
I will do that by making sure that my layer is selected and I will use the fly out menu to choose duplicate layer. We will change it to buttoncap02 and with my move tool still activated, I will move that new layer over. I can hold the “Shift” key down to make sure that it does not move up or down and I will just move it until we get it right on top of the second button.
Now, we still have that pixel area selected as well, so all we have to do is sample the yellow flame color with my eyedropper tool once again. I will switch back off to the move tool and we can use “Option+Del” or “Alt+Backspace” on the PC to once again fill our shape with color.
Now, as the last change, I would like to add a little bit of division between our contact link and our copyright and the rest of the content is going to appear above it. We will do that very quickly by simply adding a thin line between the two.
I can do that by just using the line tool which is nested with this other shape tools in Photoshop. I will simply click and hold and you can see the rest of the tools pop out. We will select that line tool and let us set it up.
In the Options, I am going it at leave at one pixel but I want a very subtle line, so I am just going to choose a medium gray color. I will draw it right across the bottom right over “Contact” and I will hold down the “Shift” key to make sure that I get a straight line from side to side.
Now, only with that line division on the right hand side, so I will just move this layer down and I will move it so it is just on top of
