Hi, this is Eric with more advice for ex-offenders looking for jobs. Today we are going to talk more about completing employment applications and applying for jobs. If you look further down in this page, you are going to see other videos that more or less outline how to complete an application and apply for a job. We call those one and two, we are going to call this one number three and we are going to discuss the final points. Some do’s and don’ts of applying for a job and completing your applications. When applying for employment, always dress as if you are going on an interview. You never know who you are going to meet. You may be asked an interview on the spot. You never know if you are going to run into someone who can impact a decision to hire you. So you always want to look your best because you will never ever get a second chance to make a first impression, so always dress your best when even applying for a job or completing an application. You may not have a suit and everything, but what you really need is a dress shirt, a nice dress shirt and a tie. Always have that on, you will be respected as a professional. Be sure to have your personal data sheet, remember we said, have your personal data sheet with all of your information on it for you to transfer to an application, so your applications are always consistent, always have your information first in that personal data sheet. Keep it in your wallet, keep it in your folder, always be prepared to complete that application. Always have plenty of pens with you, at least two in case one does not work! Always a blue or a black pen, always have two of them, in case one does not work, so you will be prepared to complete that application and once again, if you do not write very well, take it home with you, put it in your folder so that it always stays nice and neat, never fold up an application or crumple it and put it in your pocket, always keep it nice and neat and fresh. Put it in your folder, transport it and keep it nice! Be sure that your application is legible. If you cannot complete it yourself, get someone who writes really clearly to help you complete that application and once it is completed, always have it proofread for errors. You do not want to have some mistake negatively impact your ability to get an interview, so always have that application proofread before you submit it. Always be honest, honesty on all the questions on the applications. Do not be honest—it is going to come back to you later if you get that job, okay? Attach a copy of your conviction sheet if it is necessary! If you have more than one conviction, you can list it on that sheet always, have a listed sheet and that is covered in a prior video, always have—clip it to your application before you submit it. Never take anyone with you on a job search where there is a completed application or anything. You never want to be responsible for how they behave or what they look like. Never take any one with you. Once again, also never use Wipe Out on an application. Wipe Out will nullify some forms of legal documents. Whenever an application—once you sign it, it becomes a legal document and Wipe Out will nullify a legal document. Never use White Out on an application. Never leave blank spaces on your application. If you come across a question that does not apply to you, use a notation, N/A, meaning Not Applicable. It does not apply to you. Never leave any blank spaces on your application. Never get food or any other types of stains that is so unprofessional. So once again, if you have a folder, always use a folder similar to this one. Keep all of your documents nice and neat, keep your resumes nice and neat, if you have to take your application home, put it in your folder and keep it nice and neat before you submit it. Also, never forget to sign and date your application. It is not official and not legal until you sign and date it. also, never take food or drinks with you when you go to apply for a job. Remember, always put your best foot forward. Always look like a pr
