Hi, this is Eric for more advice for ex-offenders looking for jobs. Today, we are going to talk about beginning a successful job search plan. Successful job hunting is more than looking through the wanted ads and filling out applications. Getting the job you want is going to take planning, preparation, time and commitment. You may believe at this time that you do not have a job, your job is to find your next job! Your results will depend on how much time and effort you are willing to devote to finding a job. The truth is, if you are serious about getting a job, you will have to spend at least 35 to 40 hours a week to get it. Finding work is hard work! You are about to start a goal oriented sales and marketing program designed to identify buyers and convince them to buy your product. Remember, your product is your set of skills and your attitude. Consider yourself a salesman with a product to sell. Your challenge is to understand exactly what your product is and find a customer to buy it. You are about to begin a sales and marketing plan designed to get the most out of your efforts and successfully sell your product. To do any job right, you are going to need the right tools. I suggest the following, first of all, we were talking about completing applications. We talked about having a personal data sheet. That is the sheet of paper that you will keep in your wallet in your folder that has all the information you need to properly fill out an application. You are going to have your past jobs on it, you are going to have your references, you are going to have your skills—everything you need to properly fill out an application is going to be on that sheet so you always will have applications that will be consistent. When it comes the time to fill out an application, fill out your data sheet and just transfer the That next you are going to need—legal document to establish your right to work in this country. You are going to need your birth certificate, if you do not have your birth certificate, check the vital statistics department in the city that you were born! If you do not live in the city where you were born, you might have to contact them by mail, they may have a process for them to mail you your birth certificate, but you need your birth certificate. You are also going to need your social security card, if you do not have your social security card, I suggest you contact your local social security administration office, you could find their number and their address in the blue pages at the very front of your phone directory. You are also going to need another form of ID. You may be able to get this at your local county building, many counties have county identification cards. Also, contact your motor vehicles department. Motor vehicles offer many motor vehicle agencies offer identification only licenses, so you may have to contact them, but I am pretty sure you are goingt o need your birth certificate and your social security card to do that. Also, we talked about resumes, please get that resume done, get help building a nice resume to keep with you, also you are going to need plenty of pens, if you do not have pens, go out to the bank and you can get some pens that are just--just get your hands on some pens. Never go anywhere without more than one pen! One pen may fail you, so you may need a couple of pens. Also, get a nice folder to keep all of your documents in. Keep your resumes nice and folded, also we talked about completing applications, you may not write very well, so I suggest you take your application home to get someone to help you so it looks nice and neat without having these stains or smears on it. Get a nice folder to keep all of your documents in like this one. Keep your documents nice and fresh when you take them so you look like a professional. These are all really good things to have to start your job search! We have a few other things, notepad—keep a notepad with you. You may come across things that you might want to write down, always keep your notepad with you. Once again, get
