The cold weather in NYC gave us the perfect opportunity to create a 'Frozen Actor' effect to make it look like a person is ice cold or frozen solid. Erik shows you the appropriate techniques of applying makeup, and which household spices to use to create a realistic frozen effect. Also, watch the trailer for tomorrow's test film, guest directed by Justin Johnson.

It has been awhile, since we have done a make-up episode, so I went to indymogul.com. in the forums and found out a lot of you wanted to know how to make you actor look frozen. But before we get to the build, we not to have Gary, my co-host, spin the wheel to determine our budget. $30 Some of you might not know, but every week there is a second special effects tutorial on indymogul.com. It is on our blog and it is created by the very talented Wesley Scogins. Awhile back, Wes tackled this very same projects. We are going to be adding on to his original plans. WEPCTV is brought to you by ASUS and INTEL. You dream it, ASUS builds it, INTEL inside. You are watching, Indy Mogul Super Time lapse Okay, so this is actually a pretty simple built. Always start any make-up job by washing your face thoroughly. Then, if you have long hair like me, sleek it back and use some gel to make it stick out. Next, apply a base layer of white liquid make-up. At this point, I applied some shaving cream to my eyebrows, hair and stabled to replicate frost. The most important step is the salt, aka our fake frost. Right out of the container, sea salt comes in big chunks, and most of them usually come with a built in grinder on top for making smaller pieces. Take a ball and mix up some large and fine salt crystals. When I did the first test of the make-up, I use spirit gum to stick the salty frost crystals to my face. But, in hind side, I think liquid latex would be better. I then used blue and black make-up to darken around the eyes, mouth, and ears. You may have to add an additional layer of white make-up to blend. Now, you can use this same technique to make any other exposed body parts frosty. Okay, so I just got done cleaning off our test make-up. And learning the very valuable lesson, it is really hard to get off. I do not know if it some of a combination of the spirit gum and the salt. Maybe I just put too much on, I think when I do the actual application on actors, I am going to do a less, regardless even with spirit gum remover, it was just really, really hard to get off. I am going to do a test, using liquid latex as the adhesive, instead of spirit gum. Then, the couple of hours I am going to create this effect again on two actors that are not myself and we will make some changes, but this was a definitely a good learning experience. And, as you can see once we got on set, I used a lighter application of make-up and liquid latex, instead of spirit gum. Also, I ended up using only the finer ground salt and to help apply it, I filled the lid of a make-up cup with that salt then had Tonya dip her face in the cup to get a better crystal application.
