Hi, this is Eric with more help for ex-offenders and felons looking for jobs. Today, we are going to talk about preparing for a successful interview using the ABCs of a successful interview. If your job search is moving successfully, you will begin to get interviews. The interviews are opportunity for you and the employer to get to know each other and the decide if there is a match.
The employer will assess your suitability for the position. I stated before that finding a job is the marketing campaign aimed at finding buyers for your product. Of course, your product is your set of skills and work ethics.
The interview is the time where product is matched to the employer's wants. To get the job, you have to sell yourself. You effectively sell yourself by the way you look, the way you act and present your qualifications.
I suggest what I call the ABCs of a successful interview. First is appearance, your appearance will say more about you than anything you can say. Remember you are a business man with a product to sell. It's important that look like a businessman from your hair style, down to your shoes. You must be business like at all times, from the time you arrive for the interview, your total behavior should be professional. Everyone you meet should receive a professional greeting and pay very close attention to your posture and body language.
Candor, all of your answers to the interviewer's questions should sound natural and sincere. The employer should feel that you are honest in order to get hired. Demeanor, your demeanor is an outward expression of your attitude. You must appear to be friendly and likable in order to get to the job you want, in order to look friendly, you must use that bright smile.
Enthusiasm, if you want the interviewer to be excited about meeting you, you better make the interviewer feel that you are excited about being there and also enthusiastic about the job you are interviewing for. Remember enthusiasm is infectious, if you sell someone some enthusiasm, you are going to get some back.
Lastly, follow up. The end of the interviewe is not the end of your contact with the employer. Be prepare to follow up your interview with a note or card to the interviewer thanking him for his time and to re-emphasize your interest in the position. Remember to ask him for a business card. On his business card, he will have his name, his title, his contact information which is the address and the phone number for you to follow up with. Everyone is going to receive a note or thank you card, also by following up you can find out when the decision is going to be made. Following these simple guidelines, will help you prepare for a successful interview.
