Male Speaker: This is what back to school means in the developing world. No big yellow buses and back packs and the classroom doesn't even have walls, but these kids are fortunate, they have made it school and they want to learn. As North American kids assemble the supplies they need for another school year, international development groups are worried. Ian Robertson is with Christian Children's fund of Canada. Ian Robertson: Right now we are really worried about the crippling increase in the price of food. If your family lives on just a dollar a day, and the price of bread is doubled or tripled too often that means you are going to have to make some tough choices about what you can afford for your own children. Best case scenario, they are sent to school with no pens, no paper, no books, may be even no shoes. But what is happening all too commonly, is these children are being are pulled from school, being asked by their parents to go out, find a job to earn a few etcetera cents to help provide the families with what little food they can afford. Male Speaker: Thousands of Canadians are doing everything possible to give these kids that precious chance to start or stay in the school through organizations like Christian Children's Fund of Canada. They have assembled school supply kits, so children can go to class without taxing the family food budget and they are feeding kids at school. They are also helping pay teacher's salaries and building and maintaining classrooms. Ian Robertson: This all takes resources and we are hoping that when Canadian parents and students make their back to school purchases, that they'll think of the kids in the developing world. Visit our website and may be buy something like a book, some pens, or school uniform and help send these poor children back to school. Male Speaker: There are many Canadians students who take the lessons of kindness and generosity, well outside their classroom. This is Mississauga Private School, just outside of Toronto. Ivneet Garcha: We organize a walk upon a bend that allowed us to fund raise for an education center in Ghana, and we were able to raise 1000s of dollars in the last two years. The money allowed them to furnish a classroom and build a rainwater harvesting tank for safe drinking water. We really need to help these kids, especially now. Male Speaker: Canadians have an opportunity to support the world schools during this time of crisis through organizations like Christian Children's Fund of Canada. You can help individually or in a group. It all starts with a visit of ccfcanada.ca, Martin Vanderwood reporting.
